Veteran reporter Brad Townsend asked Luka if he likes it when an incident like today (the Pistons fans chanting “You suck“), to which he replied, “I love it…They keep me going.” And he clearly loves it as Luka went absolutely ballistic, bagging his 5th straight game with a 30-point triple-double, tying an NBA record held by the one and only Russell Westbrook! That’s not all – Doncic already set a brand new record by stringing together 4 games in a row with at least 35 points and a triple-double. Talk about putting on a show!
Luka Lights Out!
The Dallas Mavericks had a slow start against the Detroit Pistons, with Luka Doncic strangely coughing up 4 turnovers in the 1st quarter. This allowed Detroit to hang around, and even take a brief lead in the 2nd quarter. However, Doncic found his mojo later in the quarter, hitting clutch threes and Dallas went into halftime with a narrow 69-65 lead.

The second half was a whole different story! The Mavericks’ offense exploded, scoring from everywhere on the court. Tim Hardaway Jr. was a key player, dishing out a buzzer-beater 3-pointer at the end of the 3rd quarter. From there, it was smooth sailing for the Mavs, with the only question remaining whether Doncic would snag his historic triple-double.

This win makes it two in a row for Dallas after a rough patch where they lost five out of six. They’ve got another game coming up against the Chicago Bulls. Even though things got a little dicey after the All-Star break, the Mavericks seem to have found their groove again just in time for the playoffs. This year Mavericks have a stellar 20-5 record against sub-.500 opponents. That ties them for second-best in the entire Western Conference, right up there with the big guns like Denver and the Clippers.
This season, the Mavericks are playing like a well-oiled machine. It might not be a giant leap forward, but it is progress. Mavs fans are cheering loud, meanwhile, the Pistons fans got that L, partly thanks to their vocal efforts, or so says Luka!
