Luka Doncic has cemented himself as one of the biggest superstars in the NBA. With the way Luka’s career is panning out, he might even go down as the best European player in league history. But that conversation is a long way down the line. There are several other legendary basketball players who have come out of Europe and made a name for themselves globally.

The Dallas Mavericks superstar paid the ultimate tribute to one such European legend after his name was mentioned with the 36-year-old Serbian superstar.

A Serbian legend did it before Luka Doncic

A video of Serbian legend Milos Teodosic throwing an insane cross-court no-look pass during the Crvena Zvezda vs Milano game went viral on social media. One page on X even called Teodocic’s incredible pass “Doncic-esque.”, referring to Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic.

The comparison caught Luka’s attention, and he paid the ultimate tribute to the 36-year-old legend on X.

“I wasn’t born yet when he was already making those passes,” Luka commented on the video with two laughing emojis. Luka reminded the world that Teodosic was a legend long before Luka started playing professionally.

The Serbian National started his basketball career in 2004 when Luka was just 4 years old. Teodosic made his name as the point guard of the Serbian National team. He also played in several Top Tier leagues across Europe, including the Euro League and the Adriatic League. Milos even played two seasons in the NBA with the Los Angeles Clippers from 2017 to 2019. He averaged 8 points and 4 assists during his stint in the NBA. It is great to see a young player like Luka Doncic giving a legendary player like Milos Teodosic his flowers.

Where does Luka Doncic rank among the best European players?

At just 24 years old, Luka Doncic has achieved what many players cannot achieve in a lifetime. Even before he got drafted into the NBA, Luka dominated the Euro League as a teenager. He became the youngest MVP in Euro League history at only 19 years old in 2018. Doncic continued his dominance after joining the NBA. 6 years into his NBA career, Luka is already a 4-time All-Star. And he will most likely make his 5th straight All-Star team next month.

Luka is at par with some of the Greatest European players to ever step foot in the NBA. It is a long road for him to become the Greatest International player of All Time, with legends like Dirk Nowitzki and Pau Gasol having entered the Hall of Fame for their illustrious career.

But a few years down the line, with the possibility of an NBA title to his name, the basketballing fraternity might revisit this conversation and deem Luka the Greatest European player to ever do it.
