Kevin Durant, despite weirdly coming off the bench, is a different beast in the Olympics. He proved that again today during the game vs Brazil, after smashing another record. KD surpassed Lisa Leslie as Team USA’s all-time leading scorer, male or female, in the Olympics. His 11 points on the night helped him cement his position as the greatest scorer to don the star-spangled colors! But there’s still another milestone to be reached; his 4th Olympic gold medal. Devin Booker, his teammate for both country and franchise, declared that the hoopers have conjured up a plan for the veteran.

Speaking in a post-game interview, Booker lauded KD for his achievement and the mindset that spurred him to reach the top. Crowning him as an esteemed Marvel superhero, Book said, “That’s Captain America status. I feel like he has every record, every Olympic record, now we’ve to get him his 4th gold, that’d be the most for a men’s player also, but he’s a hard worker man. Now that we’re teammates I can see behind-the-scenes. All he cares about is hoops. It’s all he does.”

The plaudits did not stop there as NBA legend and Dream Team member, Magic Johnson, joined the KD bandwagon. To extend his congratulatory message to the Slip Reaper, he took to social media and wrote, “Congratulations to Kevin Durant on becoming the career leader in points for the U.S. in Olympic competition with 489 points!”

Kevin Durant’s dunk with 3:06 left in the third quarter earned him the magic number, helping him surpass Lisa Leslie, who was also among the appreciators.

In an X post, she wrote, “Congratulations @KDTrey5 I’m honored to have you break my @TeamUSA Olympic record!!! Our dedication to our country is evident and etched in stone!! Now go get another Gold medal my friend! One Team, One Goal, Gold!” The former hooper, who represented Team USA at the 1996 Atlanta, 2000 Sydney, 2004 Athens, and 2008 Beijing Games, previously held the record with 488 points.

When it came to KD’s teammates, Devin Booker was not the only one singing praises of him. LeBron James also joined the fray to praise the 35-year-old Olympian. “He’s incredible. He was born to play ball and he’s simply incredible. I’m happy for him. Congratulations to him. I’m super proud of him. And he’s got more to go,” the 2-time Olympic gold medalist said. However, the Suns veteran is not dallying on his personal accomplishments for now. His sights are already set on the next game against Serbia.

Kevin Durant assesses upcoming Serbia game, draws focus away from tactics

When Serbia faced Team USA last month in the UAE, Kevin Durant was only able to watch the proceedings from the courtside. But he made his triumphant return against Nikola Jokic and Co. in the Olympic opener with 23 points and 5-5 shooting from deep. Durant will be ready again to throw himself into the action against the reigning NBA MVP’s team and after facing them once, he knows exactly what to expect. “They’re just more familiar with us,” Durant said about the Serbs. “Understand how we’re coming up there.”

“You understand them as well. So it’s going to be about who wants it more, you know what I’m saying? We’re going to watch the film, study tendencies and all that stuff,” he asserted.

Serbia earned a hard-fought win over Australia earlier today. The game went to overtime with scores locked at 82 each, but Nikola Jokic‘s team prevailed despite efforts from Patty Mills and Josh Giddey, who scored 26 and 25 points, respectively.

With the game set for August 9, Kevin Durant can see the prize that’ll put him level with Lisa Leslie in the Olympic gold win tally. But for someone who breathes basketball 24×7, there won’t be a wasted motion on the penultimate step before glory.
