Glen Taylor shocked the NBA World with an announcement on Thursday that said the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx were no longer for sale. That is contrary to the $1.5 billion deal Taylor made in 2021 with minority owners Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore. Taylor backpedaled on the deal, claiming the minority owners failed to meet the necessary funds to take control by the March 27 deadline. Following the controversial announcement, Marc and Alex exposed the $2.9 Billion rich Taylor’s greediness amid Anthony Edwards and Co.’s rapid success.

Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore made an appearance on the Dane Moore NBA Podcast to discuss the Timberwolves’ ownership situation. During the podcast, Lore and Rodriguez claimed they had the subscription agreement signed and sent to the NBA by March 27. The only thing left to take control of the Timberwolves was the approval and funding. However, only after a day of the mentioned proceedings, they were informed about the deal falling through.

Following the instance, Lore made a statement exposing Taylor’s intentions to withhold the Timberwolves’ sale. “I think Glen (Taylor) just decided, as he said, that this team is worth a lot more than when he did the deal, and he no longer wants to abide by the contract. It’s plain and simple.”

The MLB legend claimed Glen Taylor might be having an unfortunate case of seller’s remorse. The value of NBA franchises has grown exponentially since Taylor made the $1.5 billion deal in 2021. Several franchises, including the Charlotte Hornets, Phoenix Suns, and Dallas Mavericks, have been sold at 3-4 times the price of Taylor’s deal. That might have caused Taylor to believe he was losing a lot of potential money by abiding by the contract.

The role of Anthony Edwards and Co.’s recent success

Another reason for Glen Taylor’s shocking announcement could be the rapid rise of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Minnesota has exceeded expectations since the 2021 deal and quickly turned into one of the best teams in the league. Currently seeded 2nd with 50-22 in the West Conference, the Wolves top the defense rating with 108.8. Thanks in part to their new-found rising superstar, Anthony Edwards; whom numerous claim to be the next face of NBA. The team of young talent posing a legitimate threat to winning the title could very well have lured Taylor to hold on to his majority stake and see how its value increases.

Rodriguez and Lore claimed despite being the minority owners, they played a key role in helping the Timberwolves succeed in such a short span. The duo currently owns 40% of the franchise, and the deal would have given them an additional 40%, making them the majority owner. Rodriguez and Lore claimed their contract was ironclad, and they would eventually take control of the Timberwolves. They also revealed their dream of bringing a Championship to Minnesota, which has been an unprecedented ground for the team.
