Luka Doncic has been on the injury list since Friday. The 4x All-Star was diagnosed with a right ankle swelling after a 126-97 win over the Blazers. Though the Mavs managed to win the rematch, the Timberwolves are their next contenders. Led by Anthony Edwards, the Wolves have emerged as a dangerous team to handle.

Especially given that Dallas is severely shorthanded now. With seven key players sidelined, out of which two are confirmed to be ‘Out’, the ‘Big D’ will have to rely on veteran Kyrie Irving to take charge. Let’s take a look at the latest official update on the Slovenian superstar’s condition!

The Dallas Mavericks beat writer, Grant Afseth released the official update that Luka Doncic is questionable to take the floor against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Missing just four games this season, Doncic is averaging 33.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 9.3 assists per game this season.

Taking a look at his injuries throughout his career, it seems like he had persistent ankle problems. While there have been minor injuries over the years, ankle injuries are the ones that have managed to force him to miss significant game time. Among these, the years 2020 and 2023 take precedence.

Having sprained his right ankle in practice on January 30, 2020, set the stage for the rest of the year. The young guard had to miss seven games. Doncic had also endured an ankle injury on the 30th of December 2022. It continued onto the next year, causing him to miss four games in the first month alone.

It goes without saying that the heavyweight in Luka’s absence will fall on Kai‘s shoulders. Aside from that, we can expect a lineup similar to the previous Blazers-Mavericks game. Josh Green, Derrick Jones Jr., Dwight Powell, Jaden Hardy, and Kyrie will probably make up the starting five.

But their efforts alone won’t be enough. Tim Hardaway Jr., who has largely assumed the sixth-man position, can also see longer minutes. Others, like A.J. Lawson, Seth Curry, Greg Brown III, and Oliver-Maxence Prosper’s contributions will also be required if the Mavs are looking to beat a full-strength Minnesota.
