Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports has made a name for himself as a controversial figure. Not bothered to mask his opinions or get deterred in the slightest by social media slashers, Portnoy has done it all. The most recent hot topic surrounding the man is the controversial Ja Morant-Quinn Ewers post. But his list doesn’t include just haters. Patrick Beverley, the veteran guard of the Sixers, has come with a different angle to the situation.

Beverley and his co-host of the Pat Bev Podcast, Adam Ferrone, engage in a discussion regarding the same. Rone asks Bev about his experience with the said company and its owner.

Beverley doesn’t agree with what the social media is saying about Portnoy or his company. In fact, he cites his own example when defending Barstool. In response to Ferrone’s question of his “lived experience,” the Philly guard says, “Not the closest thing to racism at all, not even close.”

The Pat Bev Podcast is one of the many shows under the Barstool umbrella. So when he decided to join the franchise, there were a lot of people who warned him about the kind of negative work culture they had. Having been with Barstool since 2022, we can believe that his testament does hold some weight.

Ja Morant, after coming back from his 25-game suspension for illegal use of firearms on live stream, was seen celebrating his dunk in a New Orleans matchup last month. The Barstool Sports had posted that moment with the caption that he was “spraying imaginary bullets”.

The Texas Longhorns QB, Quinn Ewers, had done the same celebratory dance on the Sugar Bowl on Monday. That was viewed as the football player having “fun”.

Many people took offense to the different treatment of the two athletes who engaged in the same act. Calling Portnoy’s company out for being racist, ‘El Presidente’ was under the direct line of fire. But an outspoken man himself, Patrick Beverley, points out a simple fact regarding Dave Portnoy.

“Love him to death or hate his f***in’ guts”: Bev on Portnoy

Beverley is of the opinion that there is a fine line in the case of people like Portnoy. Adding on to his earlier comments, Bev says, “He’s the guy that you either love him to death or you hate his f***in’ guts.” He further elaborates that the hate for the guy extends to anything and everything associated with him. And in this case, it’s Barstool Sports.

Earlier in the podcast episode, the 2012 EuroCup MVP mentions another instance of Portnoy’s quirks. He had bet on Michigan during the Rose Bowl, and lucky for him, the bet reaped a million bucks. The Barstool Sports President’s obsession with placing bets got him into a lot of trouble last year. More often than not, he lost every bet. But it looks like the New Year has started on the right track.

Bev gives a subtle hint to “watch out for that day those millions come in.” And Rone takes it from there to make it obvious as he screams his excitement, “we’re getting bonuses this year boys !” Whether they do depends on Portnoy’s mood.

Anyway, Patrick Beverley doesn’t look like he will be leaving Barstool Sports anytime soon. He seems to be quite comfortable with his lot in life.
