Veteran analyst Stephen A. Smith revealed on The Joe Budden podcast that he did not like working with his former First Take Co-host, Max Kellerman. Claiming that First Take got “Stale” when Max was part of the show, Stephen A. eventually decided to demote his co-host and remove him from First Take in 2021. 2 years later, ESPN fired Kellerman along with several other employees.

Former NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens pointed to his appearance on First Take in 2019, which could have sparked a beef between Stephen A. and Max Kellerman.
