The Detroit Pistons’ misery continues. Cade Cunningham and Co. suffered a heartbreaking 113-111 loss against the New York Knicks tonight. They remain at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings with an 8-49 record. The Pistons had a chance to win tonight’s game, but a controversial no-call by the official amid a chaotic finish robbed them of that opportunity. Pistons head coach Monty Williams was furious after the game and called out the referees for their unfair officiating.

A fuming Monty Williams went on a rant during the post-game conference. He claimed the Knicks should have been called for a foul late in the game when Donte DiVincenzo dove into Ausar Thompson’s leg. “The absolute worst call of the season, no call”, Williams said. The Pistons were leading the game by 1 point, with 30 seconds remaining in the 4th quarter. In a wild sequence, Ausar intercepted DiVincenzo’s pass and had an open lane to the basket. However, Thompson got tackled by DiVincenzo, leading to a loose ball. Jalen Brunson picked up the loose ball and passed it to Josh Hart for the game-winning layup.

“That’s an abomination. You cannot miss that in an NBA game. Period.” Williams added. Williams claimed the Pistons have faced unfair officiating throughout the season and have even complained to the league by showing them video evidence. However, the league office gives them the same response every time. Williams said, “It’s ridiculous, and we are tired of it.” The Pistons head coach revealed that his players asked him what more they need to do to win a game. Williams was so furious that he stormed off the interview without taking any further questions.

Did the Pistons deserve to win tonight’s game?

It is understandable why Monty Williams was so frustrated after tonight’s loss. After the game, referee James Williams revealed that a loose ball foul should have been called on Donte DiVincenzo. The officials reviewed the tape and found that Ausar Thompson got to the ball first and got fouled by the Knicks guard. So, Williams was right all along.
