Classic Showdowns: East vs West

2024 All-Star Weekend is the return of the classic East vs West All-Star showdown last played in 2017. The teams have been formed accordingly.

The Greek Freak Giannis Antetokounmpo leads the Eastern Conference, with Joel Embiid, Jayson Tatum, Tyrese Haliburton, and Damian Lillard acting as starters for his team. However, as Joel Embiid is injured, he will be replaced by a reserve from their team and those players are Bam Adebayo, Paolo Banchero, Jaylen Brown, Jalen Brunson, Tyrese Maxey, Donovan Mitchell, and Julius Randle.

On the other hand, leading the Western Conference is the 20x All-Star LeBron James. Alongside him, we have Kevin Durant, Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as the starters. However, in case anyone gets injured or does not play due to some unforeseen circumstance, the reserves for West include Devin Booker, Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, Anthony Edwards, Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, and Karl-Anthony Towns.

But due to the NBA having so much talent, there are obviously some players who did not make the list which has caused some frustration among their loyal fanbases.

NBA All-Star 2024 Snubs

There are many notable names included in this year’s snub list, with the most notable one being Domantas Sabonis. He has near-triple-double averages and made significant contributions to the Sacramento Kings. He is second only to Nikola Jokić in triple-doubles this season and has been a driving force behind his team’s success, displaying efficiency and consistency on the floor.

Even Sabonis’ colleague De’Aaron Fox, whose outstanding play has been key in the Kings’ rise, joins him on the list of overlooked players. Fox’s ability to control the speed of the game and perform in crucial situations displays his worth as a top-tier player deserving of recognition.

Another evident snub is James Harden, whose return to the LA Clippers has resulted in a revival of his playmaking talents, which has contributed greatly to his team’s success. While his scoring has dropped since his Houston Rockets days, Harden remains a powerful force on the floor.

Even Alperen Şengün has given some amazing performances for the Rockets but got overlooked, maybe because of his teams’ failures. However, one of the biggest shockers for the fans was to not see Trae Young on the All-Star starter list. He is only an injury replacement in the Eastern Conference reserves. Despite the complaints about his playing style, Young’s on-court accomplishments are undeniable, making his absence a point of disagreement among fans and experts alike.

One take at a time

"I am always focused on getting better. I never want to settle for mediocrity", reflects Luka Doncic’s unwavering dedication to personal growth and excellence. And just like him, I am constantly working on myself, improving my game! The first time I fell in love with basketball though was when I saw Kobe Bryant play.
