The Western Conference top seed, Minnesota Timberwolves will be battling against the fourth-seeded LA Clippers tonight. Playing host, the Wolves have only lost two games at home this season. But since the new year, Minnesota has been on a hot and cold streak. The latest was Anthony Edwards and Co.’s overtime loss to the Boston Celtics, unlike the Clippers. Riding a three-game winning streak, LA will look to extend it as they visit the Target Center.

Enjoying a healthy roster this season, with some of the top talents in the league all playing seamlessly, the Clippers are having one of their best runs in a long time. Can the young Timberwolves stand their ground against the Big 4, especially with the latest update on their star player?

Taking charge of a floundering Minnesota with the ease of a long-time veteran, Edwards was that ray of sunshine. The franchise hasn’t looked back since. So, it’s natural that any time he is absent, there will be an air of apprehension. Particularly when your opponents are the high-flying Clippers. The latest update on ANT does not provide much relief for fans or his teammates.

Sidelined due to a left knee contusion, the organization is yet to release the details of the same. The Ant-Man has had a few rough patches this season. Early in December, he was sidelined due to a hip injury. And while they won against the Blazers last night, it was clear that Edwards was struggling. He finished the game with just nine points.

If he doesn’t suit up, guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker and forward Troy Brown Jr. can find themselves playing longer minutes. Of course, Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert will be there to take the lead, but it will still be a tough battle against a full-strength LA.

The ANT and his hip

2023 hadn’t been very kind to Anthony Edwards. Since the start of his career in 2021 till now, nothing beats last year’s list. Unfortunately, his hip has been the victim of injuries primarily. The whole of January saw him going back and forth with hip soreness. Interestingly, it was during a Clippers-Timberwolves matchup (January 6th, 2023) that he exited due to hip soreness after playing for 23 minutes and scoring 5 points.

While he hadn’t missed any game time this season, Edwards always played with a questionable tag ahead of matchups. And then comes the gravity-defying fall during the Oklahoma City Thunder game. Landing hard on his side, the NBA All-Star was sidelined for the next couple of games.

December saw him aggravate the right hip during the Grizzlies matchup. He had left after just four minutes of floor time. Though he missed one game with this, that was it, until now. Seeing that Anthony Edwards has a tendency to play through the pain, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him suited up vs the LA Clippers.

He does love big games and going against big names (remember Jaylen Brown?). On a scale of 1-5, with 1 being highly probable and 5 being least probable, what do you think is the probability of Edwards getting on-court? Drop your comments below!

“Not only is there more to life than basketball, there’s a lot more to basketball than basketball” - Jackson had a simple philosophy when he was coaching the Lakers. He wanted everyone to succeed and grow in the service of something bigger than themselves. This is what struck me the most.
