The Warriors seem to be on a ‘ref curse’ this season. Tonight was also another one of “those” days for the GSW. Rising star, Jonathan Kuminga, was assessed a flagrant foul for landing a whack straight on Franz Wagner’s head. The Orlando forward was driving to the basket when Trayce Jackson-Davis, Chris Paul, and Kuminga surrounded him.

While trying to guard him, Kuminga’s arm came down on the 22-year-old’s head. The man in question fell to the floor in a heap, grabbing the attention of the refs. And Jonathan Kuminga ended up with a flagrant foul.

But the GSW fans wouldn’t stand for such ridiculous officiating and they let their frustrations known on X (formerly Twitter). One fan seemed disgusted enough that he said that the NBA wasn’t “worth watching anymore.”

Another one couldn’t help but wonder what happened to the hardcore basketball that was present during the MJ and Shaq era. He said, “How soft is this league.”

Another fan brings our attention to the fact that officiating in Warriors games is always “worse”. He even cites an example of Chris Paul and Paolo Banchero.

Yet another user is certain that another basketball league is in order, “where real ball can be played.”

And finally, this guy just left the league hanging with one word.

The Dubs’ struggles this season with the officials have been a unique experience. Fouls, ejections, and suspensions have been the headlines for the Golden State Warriors the past year. And it seems like it has carried on over to the new year. Not to mention Gary Payton II’s injury in the third quarter and the subsequent ruling out was also another concerning incident tonight.

Despite all the shortcomings, they started the year with a 121-115 victory over the Orlando Magic.

The wholesome breakfast by Ayesha Curry seems to have paid off well. Stephen Curry led the scorers with 36 points. Kuminga came up behind with 19 points, while Klay Thompson contributed 15. And like that, the GSW managed to snap their three-game skid.

Having to end the year on a loss was difficult. But the harrowing situations the team had to go through since the regular season started would be enough for anyone to throw in the towel. Yet they didn’t give up. With Steph taking the lead in keeping them afloat and the Chris Paul-led bench unit rising to the occasion, the Warriors stayed true to their franchise.

Tonight was no different. Kuminga’s pivotal dunk with just 2:29 left on the clock helped extend the lead to 110-101. Prior to that, the Magic had tried to get the better of a short-handed Dubs in the fourth quarter (8:33 remaining). The score was 93-92. But Thompson beat their comeback with a prompt three-pointer. From there, the Warriors were in control of the game.

The Golden State (16-17) is behind the Lakers (17-17) in the Western Conference with tonight’s win. Hopefully, their New Year resolutions will be to get better and work on that teamwork.
