The Golden State Warriors snuck a win over the Oklahoma City Thunder in the final second. With the game tied at 139, Stephen Curry drove to the basket with three seconds left on the clock and hit a tough layup over Chet Holmgren to seal the game. Curry’s insane game-winner was initially called off as Draymond Green got charged for an offensive interference. Upon review, referees overturned the call and counted the basket, creating a big controversy.

While the OKC Thunder was still coping with their loss, the NBA rubbed salt on Josh Giddey and Co’s wounds with their official statement on the controversial call.

While Stephen Curry’s final shot against the Thunder was still bouncing on the rim, Warriors Center Draymond Green touched the rim. The officials initially disallowed the basket due to Draymond’s interference, but later overturned their call in favor of the Warriors. The Thunder fans in the arena were unhappy with the overturned call and booed the officials. To clarify everyone’s confusion, the NBA explained in Saturday’s “Last Two Minute Report” that the officials’ final decision was the correct one.

According to the NBA’s report, “In order for contact with the rim to constitute offensive basket interference when the ball is not in the net, it must (a) occur while the ball is sitting or rolling on the rim and using the rim as its lower base, (b) cause the ball to take an unnatural bounce, or (c) move the rim off-center. None of those conditions were satisfied on this play, so there was no basket interference.” It can also be seen in the replay that Thunder guard Josh Giddey pulled the net before Draymond Green touched the rim. So, the play could have also been called for defensive goaltending, counting the basket anyway.

The controversial finish to the Warriors-Thunder game has taken a lot of attention away from how great of a game it was. OKC put up a great fight against Stephen Curry and Co. in the absence of their superstar, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The young OKC squad stepped up their game as Lu Dort went insane for 29 points. Chet Holmgren also had a great game with 24 points, and he was complemented by 18 from Josh Giddey. But that was not enough to stop Stephen Curry from dominating the game.
