The NFL recently fined Miami Dolphins’ superstar, Tyreek Hill, for a celebratory act. After scoring a 41-yard touchdown, the “Cheetah” ran to his close friend and took a viral backflip selfie. This caught the attention of the NFL, and not in a good way. Hill was penalized, and his cameraman friend possibly had his future thrown into turmoil. The decision enraged fans and other athletes alike. And LeBron James is one of them.

Hill’s close friend, who is also the Dolphins’ cameraman, has been working for the NFL for a year now. The league, according to the rules outlined, slapped him with a year-long suspension. It was enough to get everybody’s attention.

It is quite the norm to celebrate wins in the game as they happen. All athletes engage in this practice. And this is what the Dolphins’ WR also did. Unfortunately, Hill’s celebratory backflip selfie taken from the phone of Kevin Fitzgibbons got the duo in trouble. NFL’s strict policy of not using external props during celebrations is what laid the groundwork for his penalty and Fitz’s suspension.

LeBron James, on hearing the news, was shocked at the absurdity of the punishment. Taking to his Instagram, the “King” wrote on his story, “Man this F’d up!!! Suspended for the year and possibly for good! C’mon NFL! Do better! Sh*t ain’t that serious.”

Kevin Fitzgibbons had created a video detailing his journey from being a friend of Hill to the contract that got him a full-time gig with the Dolphins. And finally, being ousted from the same league.

This kid is just 20 years old. And though this says a year-long suspension, it has every possibility of ruining future career prospects. Kevin Fitzgibbons’ one-year suspension came a month after Hill’s penalty.

Tyreek Hill gets penalized for backflip selfie

The ‘punishable offense’ by the 29-year-old WR had happened in the Week 6 game between the Panthers and the Dolphins. Excited at the stunning touchdown, Hill saw his close friend standing among cameramen on the sideline. Seeing a familiar face heightened his excitement, which he showcased by running straight to Fitz and grabbing his phone for a brilliant backflip selfie.

The fact that Tyreek Hill included him in his celebration took the young cameraman by surprise. Thrilled by the entire situation, Fitz jumped on the sidelines with excitement before handing over the photo to the league. By then, it was too late. Hill was immediately questioned about the incident and fined.

In a post-game interview, Tyreek reportedly said that he knew they would penalize him for that action. But he wasn’t too worried about it. And that he played the sport for ‘passion’, not ‘money’.

Fitz is truly a talented videographer and content creator. His skills are what got him independent contracts with famous names like Saquon Barkley, Antonio Brown, and Tyreek Hill. This was also what prompted the NFL to accept his job application and put him in charge of covering all the home games of the Miami Dolphins.

For the league to take such a course of action is arguably over the top. The fact that there should be a punishment is reasonable. But one that has every possibility of ruining a 20-year-old’s future is questionable.
