Shedeur Sanders has had the most abrupt start to his NFL career. Initially projected to land in New Orleans as a high first rounder, it shocked everyone when legend Deion Sanders’ son fell all the way down to the 144 pick. Eventually, it was the Cleveland Browns who ended his misery. But Shedeur was not the only quarterback they drafted. Two rounds earlier, they also selected Oregon product Dillon Gabriel as the 94 pick. Now, the two youngsters are battling for the Browns’ starting QB spot.
While there is still a long way to go before Shedeur and Dillon’s fate is determined, TNT’s Inside the NBA seems to have already confirmed it. Continuing their decades old ritual, the legendary crew highlighted this week’s NBA playoffs eliminations by sending the teams fishing. First in line – Cleveland Cavaliers, who were sent packing by the Pacers in just five games.
As the crew put on their hats and drew the fishing rods, the graphics rolled on the green screen, showing several Cavs players on a boat, along with some familiar faces from Cleveland. Two of them were Browns’ rookies, Shedeur and Gabriel. But what caught everyone’s attention is that Gabriel was standing in the middle, next to Donovan Mitchell and Kelce Brothers. Whereas Sanders did not even get a spot on the boat and was floating in the ocean. His image was so distant that the crew didn’t even realize it was Shedeur at first.

While the segment was all in good fun, it could be a sign of things to come in Cleveland. With Shedeur and Dillon fighting for the same starting role, looks like the former Oregon star might have the upper hand because of his higher draft pick. Is that what the TNT graphics were hinting at? Maybe. But the reality is that Sanders seems to be holding his own in Cleveland.
Veteran analyst claims Shedeur Sanders outperformed Dillon Gabriel in rookie minicamp
Well, the race to solidify a spot on the Browns’ roster has already begun. This past weekend, Shedeur and Dillon were part of the rookie minicamp along with other fresh draft picks and young athletes. While Gabriel is the higher pick among the two, veteran analyst Zac Jackson believes Sanders might have a better skill set. After attending the open minicamp practices, the analyst said, “In just throwing the ball, it’s not close: Shedeur Sanders.”

Of course, minicamp practices do not paint the complete picture because they lack the intensity of actual competition. And Zac even pointed it out, “Let me counter that by saying this is rookie minicamp. No pads, no full-speed competition, nobody’s coming to know your head off.” However, it’s a good sign that Shedeur passed his first test with flying colors. Another analyst, LeSean McCoy, also had high praise for Sanders, “They (sources) told me he looks like the best player out of the whole camp.”
What’s your perspective on:
Could Shedeur Sanders prove everyone wrong and become the Browns' next star quarterback?

Meanwhile, Gabriel is not doing bad, either. In fact, he received the stamp of approval from NFL legend Dan Orlovsky, “Not only a lefty, but the ball distribution, the anticipation, layering throws over guys… I don’t think Gabriel is a guy that people should overlook. He’s a really talented thrower.” Regardless of which rookie gets the starting spot, the real winner here are the Browns, who have two talented young QBs they can develop into stars. Do you agree?
