Jaylen Brown officially started it all with a seemingly harmless Instagram post. The Celtics forward took to Instagram to share a series of emotional photos of himself with Marcus Smart, who just married his partner, Maisa Hallum. Brown’s message was simple but effective, “My brother 4L,” he wrote, highlighting his lifetime friendship with Smart. Brown had no idea that his post would spark a friendly challenge for Smart’s brotherhood.
Jaren Jackson Jr., one of Smart’s new teammates in Memphis, decided to stake his claim on the newlywed in a fun manner. Jackson responded to Brown’s post with a comment, stating, “My brotha now.”

The Boston Celtics traded Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies as part of a three-team transaction that also includes Kristaps Porzingis. Smart is a three-time first-team All-Defensive selection and the 2021-22 Defensive Player of the Year. He is well-known for his tenacious defense, strong leadership, and ability to keep teammates accountable. Smart’s departure from the Celtics is a huge loss for the team, both on and off the court.
He was an important element of Boston’s identity and contributed to the development of a winning culture. It remains to be seen whether the Celtics can replace Smart’s productivity and leadership, but his departure is a setback to their title hopes. With a three-year $49.2 million deal, Smart is a fantastic addition to the Grizzlies. He adds a winning mindset and championship experience to a young, rising club. Smart will also contribute to the Grizzlies’ defense, which was an issue last season.
