Doncic upset with the referee’s decisions

Canada’s triumph over Slovenia demonstrated their tenacity and expertise on the basketball floor. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led his team with 31 points, while RJ Barrett contributed 24, adding to Canada’s 100-89 victory. This hard-fought victory sent Canada to the semifinals, where they will meet Serbia in an exciting clash. The stakes were significant for both Canada and Slovenia; the top two finishers in Europe at the Basketball World Cup will receive automatic tickets to the Paris Olympics.

Slovenia’s quarterfinal defeat ensures that they will finish no higher than the sixth. Germany and Serbia, who will compete in the other semifinal, cannot finish worse than fourth. This means that Germany and Serbia will represent Europe at the Olympics in France next summer. While the match against Slovenia was tough, it was an important milestone for Canada in the World Cup. Canada has already assured a top-four finish with their result in the competition thus far. They had previously finished sixth in 1978 and 1982. As the squad gets to the semifinals, they have a goal set on a coveted World Cup trophy.

His heated disagreements with the officials, though, tarnished his otherwise brilliant 26-point performance. Doncic was removed with 6:37 remaining in the game after collecting his second technical penalty, both for heated discussions with referees about calls and non-called. His early departure created a big vacuum in Slovenia’s roster as they tried a comeback. After the match finished, in the post-match interview, Doncic raised this matter.

He said,The referee told one of the guys, we are not going to call a foul on him (Brooke) because he is coming at us. I think this is not fair. I know I complained a lot, but I don’t think it’s fair“.

Canada’s player also received a foul

The ferocity of the game went beyond Doncic’s dismissal, as Canada also had a player ejection. Following a technical foul, Dillon Brooks, a significant player for Canada, was also removed soon before Doncic’s exit. His team had given Brooks the task of defending Doncic, and he did. Brooks’ excellent defense left evident scratch scars on Doncic’s shoulder. When Doncic was dismissed, Slovenia trailed Canada 92-77. So due to Brooks’ defending, Doncic seemed helpless on the court. And according to a new report, the most hated player in the last 60 days is Dillon Brooks. So he might have won glory for his team but has lost respect in the eyes of the fans.
