The Los Angeles Lakers suffered humiliation again tonight. Coming off a brutal loss against the Houston Rockets last night, the Laker Nation expected LeBron James and Co. to bring their A game against the Atlanta Hawks. Unfortunately for the Lakers fans, the Purple and Gold got decimated by the Hawks 138-122, resulting in two losses on back-to-back nights.

Following the blowout loss, LeBron James shared his honest opinion about the Lakers’ struggles and how inconsistent they have been all season. “We could, at any given night, beat any team in the NBA. And on any given night, we can get our a** kicked by any team in the NBA.” King James said in the post-game interview. LeBron’s frustration is warranted, as the Lakers’ performance has been highly inconsistent.

They played arguably the best game of the season on Saturday against the Warriors. The game went to double overtime, and it took a historic performance by LeBron James and Co. to come out with a 1-point win. LeBron showed why he is one of the Greatest players of all time and went off for 36 points, a career-high 20 rebounds, and 12 assists, to record a triple-double. Anthony Davis and D’Angelo Russell also put on a show and combined for 57 points. However, the Lakers failed to carry their momentum to the following back-to-back games. LeBron struggled to get going in tonight’s game and finished with only 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists. The rest of the Lakers squad also could not do much to stop the Hawks, as they were playing without their superstar, Anthony Davis.

Anthony Davis’ absence cost the Lakers tonight

Another reason the Lakers got blown out by Trae Young and Co. tonight was the absence of Anthony Davis. The Lakers forward was ruled out of tonight’s game as he was dealing with bilateral Achilles tendinopathy and left hip spasm. Davis endured a scary bump during the Warriors game when he collided with Draymond Green during a play. He admitted to feeling sore and being unable to move naturally following yesterday’s loss against the Rockets. Davis’ injury affected his performance last night, and the Lakers ruled him out tonight.

With Davis out of the lineup, the Lakers were missing their defensive anchor and primary scoring option against the Hawks. Meanwhile, D’Angelo Russell also ended his fiery streak and scored only 9 points in tonight’s loss. Austin Reaves tried to bring the Lakers back in the game with his 28-point performance but to no avail. The void of Davis’ absence was too big to fill for the Lakers. Hopefully, AD can recover from his injury soon and return to the lineup for the Lakers to perform more consistently.
