Patrick Beverley and his Hall of Fame-worthy comments, are a combination that will be sorely missed in the NBA next season. And before he left the NBA, he couldn’t fulfill his promise made 5 years ago. Remember the comment: “Next five years will be mine,” made during the Warriors and Clippers game in 2019? Sure you do, that’s a classic. But as things turned out, it actually never happened.
That’s what Pat Bev claimed. The guard is now plying his trade in Israel. So, he won’t have a chance to disclose the true story in a post-game interview after facing the Warriors. As a result, he picked his podcast as the medium to debunk the legendary trash-talking segment with Stephen Curry.
“You had the last five years. The next five years are mine”– this was the alleged comment from Pat Bev thrown at Curry. But now, in 2024, Beverley revealed that it was all made up by the internet. During the latest episode of his Pat Bev Podcast, Beverley said, “As we thought, looking back on it, it was like, no. You had your time, and now it’s time to switch it up. It wasn’t never like a 5 years or yeah. But it was good. So you told me. I’m like, okay. Alright. Let me run with this…The Internet is the Internet, and it played out the way it’s supposed to play.”

Clarifying it further, Pat Bev discussed the issue again during the Knuckleheads Podcast. “I ain’t gonna come at nobody and I know he’s a hitter,” Beverley explained to Quentin Richardson and Darius Miles. “Ain’t no need to talk to him. I know what he brings. I’m locked in. I’m watching him. I ain’t gonna go out there and talk trash to Steph Curry — Steph Curry gets 30 shots a game. Some people you pick your battles with. Steph Curry see me and then he’s like, ‘Oh, what’s up with Pat? Oh, he locked in.'”
Sure, the alleged comment had Patrick Beverley written all over it, but since he’s making a case for himself, questioning the authenticity of it, he can probably get a pass for that. But the NBA hasn’t been too kind to him since that alleged trash-talk as Patrick Beverley faced nothing but disappointment in the seasons after that.

What’s your perspective on:
Five years later, Beverley's Curry taunt looks foolish. Was he ever a real threat?
Have an interesting take?
Patrick Beverley has pinballed around the league in the past five years. After the Clippers stint, he moved to the Timberwolves, then the Lakers. This was followed by his time at the Bulls, the Sixers, and the Bucks. But success eluded him everywhere. In 2020, the Clippers blew a 3-1 lead over the Nuggets in the playoffs second round. The next year, Beverley’s team reached the WCF but fell to the Suns. The following year saw a 4-2 loss to the Grizzlies. In the 2022/23 season, he missed the playoffs with the Bulls.
Last season, Beverley had the final playoff experience in his NBA career (if he doesn’t return). The Bucks crashed out in the first round to the Pacers, but Beverley was involved in controversies after that. First, he threw a ball at a courtside fan adjacent to the Bucks bench. Later in the locker room, he refused to give an interview to a female reporter who didn’t subscribe to his podcast. Beverley was subsequently punished by the league, but he probably doesn’t care as his “European” basketball journey continues.
