The Detroit Pistons are having an abysmal season. They have been at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings all season and struggled to win games. The Pistons got handed their 44th loss of the season tonight by the Los Angeles Clippers. Despite the Pistons’ horrific performance, there has been a silver lining in their season. Their 22-year-old guard, Cade Cunningham, has proven to be a future superstar in the league. He has taken a giant leap from his sophomore season and improved immensely.

Cunningham’s impressive performance and potential have even turned Clippers’ superstar Paul George into a big fan. After tonight’s game, PG had high praise for the young Pistons superstar, “I love Cade’s game. He’s really good, he’s athletic, he’s strong. I think that’s really where he’s going to be a problem for many years to come.” Cunningham’s ball-handling and playmaking ability impressed the 9-time All-Star, even at such a young age.

Cade is in his third season with the Pistons, and his numbers have improved each season. After averaging 19.9 points and 6 assists last season, Cade’s numbers have increased to 22.4 points, 7.5 assists, and 4 rebounds this year. More importantly, Cade has stayed healthy for the majority of this season, which was not the case last year. He played only 12 games in the 2022-23 season and got ruled out following a season-ending surgery in his fractured shin. The 22-year-old has bounced back incredibly well after the major surgery and plays hard every night despite the Pistons’ struggles.

Paul George claims a bright future for the Pistons

Not only did Paul George reveal his fandom for Cade Cunningham, but he also had high hopes for the young Pistons squad. “They got a strong nucleus of their core with him, Duren, Ivey, the Thompson twin. They’re going to be good when they figure it out playing together.” PG said in the post-game interview. According to the Clippers star, the Pistons have a bright future if they figure out how to play together as a unit. Cade Cunningham and Co. are a young group, and this season will be a learning curve for the entire team.

The Pistons’ front office went all out on the trade deadline and made significant moves to bounce back from their abysmal season. They let go of several players, including Bojan Bogdanovic, Alec Burks, Joe Harris, and Killian Hayes, either by trading them or waiving them. The Pistons also added and retained Quentin Grimes, Evan Fournier, Troy Brown Jr., and several other players. These moves show that the Pistons are ready to go all-in on getting better next season, and that could mean great things for Cade Cunningham and Co.
