Knicks fans have been on cloud nine ever since Jalen Brunson and Co. dethroned the reigning champs. And rightfully so. After all, this is their first trip to the Conference Finals in 25 years, and not many picked them to beat the Celtics before the series began. But now that the New York team has proven the critics wrong, their fans are making sure to hand out the receipts. One of their targets? Brian Windhorst.
Well, Windy was one of the many basketball pundits sceptical about the Knicks getting past the Celtics. In fact, he was so confident about their season coming to an end in the second round, he said on ESPN, “If the Knicks take it to 6, I’d celebrate it like a win.” So, when Tom Thibodeau’s squad sent the reigning champs packing in six games, that too with a 38-point blowout win to close the series, one Knicks fan was quick to confront Windhorst as he walked past him on the street.
In a video that has since gone viral, a passionate fan points the camera at the ESPN veteran, asking him, “How do you feel about Boston losing?” But as soon as Windy leans in to respond, the fan cuts him off and yells, “I don’t give a f—. Knicks in six, p—-!” Realizing that the fan’s sole intent is to heckle him, Windy keeps a professional approach and continues walking with a smile on his face. The fan continues yelling, “So go like s— now! What are you gonna say?”

Maybe Knicks fans want Windy to celebrate like he promised on First Take. As of now, the analyst has not said much about the New York team’s miraculous victory. However, he did write a detailed ESPN piece about the “hazy” future of the Celtics following their early playoff exit. The article strictly stuck to the Boston franchise’s struggles, without giving much attention to the Knicks. So, Windy is yet to deliver on his promise. His ESPN colleague, Stephen A. Smith, however, has had the complete opposite reaction.

When Windhorst made his bold statement on ESPN, Stephen A. Smith also shocked everyone with his prediction: “There’s not a single person who legitimately knows basketball has the Knicks winning more than 1 game.” Although the statement was strange coming from the longtime Knicks fan, it made sense because the Celtics were the higher seed and the defending champions.

However, soon after the Knicks began winning, Stephen A. was pleasantly surprised. The celebrations began when they took a 2-0 lead in Boston, and they have not stopped since. Sure enough, the ESPN analyst was in attendance at MSG for Game 6 to support the Knicks and witness their historic win. What followed was a series of videos and pictures on X of Stephen A celebrating in the Garden. Clapping, cheering, and even singing at times, the analyst was having the time of his life.
After the game, he even stepped on the court and dabbed up Jalen Brunson to congratulate him. Then came a wholesome moment with another die-hard Knicks fan, Spike Lee, as both shared a hug and celebrated the Knicks’ win. Smith ended his night by posting a picture of himself, standing underneath the big MSG screen, showing the Knicks squad advancing to the Conference Final. “Goodnight,” he wrote. It was indeed a good night for Knicks fans, and they hope to keep this party going till June.
