It was Curry vs. Curry night at the point guard’s native! The Golden State Warriors were on the road to face off against the Charlotte Hornets. After winning tonight’s showdown against the Hornets 115-97, Warriors superstar Stephen Curry was asked about his thoughts on the Warriors’ impressive record of winning 13 out of their last 16 road games. Curry’s answer is sure to leave you in stitches!

Chef Curry is always cooking, it may be through his actions or his words. Curry wittily said, “We might need to like stay in a hotel in San Francisco.” He continued, “I don’t know what it is about road Warriors but we’ve kept our season alive with our road performance so it means a lot, and what it’s looking like we’re gonna have to do that to get to the playoffs so its something to rely on.”

This comes after Stephen Curry led the Warriors to their victory with 23 points, 1 rebound, and 4 assists in the 32 minutes he played. He was followed by Andrew Wiggins who bagged a solid 20 with 8 rebounds, and 8 assists. Young Trayce Jackson-Davis chipped in a cool 18 points along with 8 rebounds, and 1 assist.

The Golden State Warriors are facing a rather unique season. While they’ve been raking in dubs on the road this season (15-9 with Draymond Green in the lineup), their home record paints a strangely different picture (10-11). This inconsistency could be the primary culprit in case they miss the playoffs.

Last year, the Warriors dominated their home court with a staggering 33-8 regular season record, extending their dominance into the playoffs with a 4-2 mark. Their road record, however, was a stark contrast (11-30 in the regular season and 2-4 in the playoffs). This trend continued in 2021-22, with a strong home record of 31-10 and a road record of 22-19. Even during their play-in season in 2020-21, they were significantly better at home with 25-11 compared to their road woes 14-22.

While their home point differential (+0.4) is surprisingly lower than their road differential (+2.8), the numbers don’t tell the whole story. Interestingly, the Warriors average slightly more three-point attempts at home (with a marginally lower shooting percentage) and commit more fouls while drawing fewer on the road. The most blatant difference can be rooted back to rebounding. The opps are feasting on offensive boards at the Chase Center, grabbing 11% more than road games. However, there may be another explanation, Draymond Green’s presence (or lack thereof) at home.

Is Draymond Green The Missing Piece Of the Warriors’ Home Puzzle?

Green has played 26 road games this season, with the Warriors having a winning record of 15-9 in those games particularly. However, their record goes down to a disappointing 10-11 when Green sits (including a game where he got ejected after just 100 seconds!)

This could be the missing piece to the puzzle of the Warriors’ struggles. Their entire base relies upon big man Draymond’s defensive strengths and his ability to set up Steph Curry, especially when Curry’s facing a double-team. Without Draymond for a quarter of their home games, the Warriors have gone from a potential top-6 seed to a team dearly holding on to a play-in spot.

Draymond’s back soreness has been a major point of concern as they embark on a 5-game road trip. Ironically, if they make the play-in tournament, all those crucial games will be on the road, or if there’s a game at home, best to get hotel rooms back in the Bay as Curry suggested.
