The Golden State Warriors ended their two-game winning streak in a dismal 141-134 overtime loss to the Hawks tonight. Stephen Curry was on fire as he finished with 60 points. Unfortunately, Curry’s one-man army was not enough to take GSW over the edge.

And it was largely due to a disappointing performance by Klay Thompson, who finished with 10 points in 36 minutes of game time even as Curry left everything on the court.

With tonight’s performance, Steph joined Kobe Bryant as the only player in NBA history to score 60 or more points in a game at 35 years or older. Yet, the Hawks managed to stand their ground against the visiting Warriors. Another brownie point for Curry is that he finished just two points shy of his career-high 62 points achieved in 2021. 30 of Steph’s 60 points came in the fourth and OT alone, showcasing his scoring prowess.

But it was Dejounte Murray who pushed the game to overtime with a game-tying jumper. Murray continued the momentum, scoring seven final points to win. Tonight’s win marks the Blackhawks’ fourth consecutive win. Trae Young showcased a dominant performance, going head-to-head with Curry for most of the night. ‘Ice Trae’ doused the GSW in cold water, finishing with a team-high 35 points. He also landed seven of his 11 three-pointers.

Okongwu finished the night with a double-double, scoring 22 points and 16 rebounds. Clint Capela and Johnson followed suit as well. Capela had 17 points and 15 rebounds while he dished two assists. Johnson, for his part, flirted with a triple-double as he landed 21 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists. Except De’Andre Hunter and Garrison Mathews, the rest of the Hawks scored in double digits as they decimated the Warriors.

Does tonight’s performance put Klay Thompson in danger?

Yet another disappointing night from the Steph’s other Splash Brother with the deadline closing in is not a good combination. During the Grizzlies game last night, Steve Kerr once again made the late-game decision to close with rookie Brandin Podziemski. The first time this happened was during the Suns vs Warriors game on December 12, 2023.

Of course, it was accompanied by shocking gasps and startled silence, but Kerr gave the same reason then as he did last night. The Dubs coach confirmed that as long as that group was performing well, he had no qualms or guilt in closing with them. In other words, Kerr wasn’t worried about hurting veteran Klay’s feelings if that got them wins.

Although Thompson looked lost and then indignant at the slight on December, Thompson had admitted that he deserved to be benched. “I’ve been playing like crap,” he said, disappointedly.

Although Kerr acknowledged he had been playing better, it’s quite obvious that he’s not the Klay Thompson before injuries. The Golden State has been desperately flitting around looking for a superstar to play along with Curry. It was a widely known fact that everyone except Steph was on the chopping block.

Taking that into consideration and Kerr’s willingness to swap Klay, all points to a potential trade that might very well include Thompson as the prime attraction.
