Kyrie’s Anta vs. Stephen’s Under Armour

Kyrie Irving’s time with Nike ended last year, and he is now a free agent in the footwear market. The former Cleveland Cavaliers champion elected to sign a five-year endorsement contract with Anta, a Chinese sportswear company. What distinguishes this deal is Irving’s appointment as the company’s Chief Creative Officer of Anta Sports for his merchandise lineup. The leadership of his company was, however, the key to negotiating the deal.

One key feature of Irving’s agreement with Anta is the possibility of entering the large Chinese market. The combination of China’s population gives a potential possibility to reach the reported $2.6 billion threshold. And with Irving’s popularity as a global celebrity continuing to rise, it will increase his global marketability. Stephen Curry, the?two-time MVP and shooting extraordinaire, on the other hand, has renewed his collaboration with Under Armour.

While the actual terms of the arrangement were not published. But, it is expected to be one of the most lucrative endorsement deals in sports history. Annual base compensation, stock equity, royalties on trademark items, and on-court incentive bonuses are all part of the package. The potential rise of the stock and planned yearly remuneration might result in Curry earning more from the Under Armour pact than from his NBA contracts. This means that his total will be more than $473 million through the 2025-26 season.

Although Irving is the Chief Creative Officer of his product line, Curry is the President of his ‘Curry brand’ which gives him more resources to grow his name-brand. The price of the Anta shoes is more costly than Curry’s Under Armour signature shoe. The Anta Shock Wave 5 retails at $299.99 whereas Curry 11 “Future Curry” retails at $160, which is a huge difference.
