What if the Golden State Warriors are most dangerous when everyone thinks they’re done? That question returned after they took back-to-back games from a red-hot Spurs team (were 8-2 before the two losses), capped by Stephen Curry’s 46-point win on Wednesday, followed by a 49-point burst in a 109-108 win last night. But even with Curry leading the charge, it wouldn’t have been possible without head coach Steve Kerr.

Curry himself credited Kerr during the post-game presser, saying that the spark for his monstrous performance came from Kerr’s pregame talk: “He’s broken clipboards along the way, he’s gotten techs — he gets fiery. This morning, he gave a speech in our pregame meeting.” But should Kerr alone get the call-outs or the praise if the team performs poorly or well? Curry has that answer.

“And you could tell, like, he still has that fastball if he needs it. And it’s important for us to have that energy, and over the course of 82 games, we’re all in this fight together. I think he talked about that this morning. He showed it out there, and whether you win or lose, you just want to have a unit and a team that’s together, coaches included.” He further revealed.

Kerr has used plenty of methods over the years to light a fire under his team before big games, but what was different this time around? “He rarely talks about his Chicago days, and he gave some references to how they approached their team and their identity by comparisons to how a band comes together and everybody playing their role,” he said.

You got your lead singers, you got your bass, your acoustic, your electric, whatever. You got your drummers. You got the stagehands. You got the guy who’s plugging in the speakers. He said he was just above plugging in the speaker guy, It all matters. There’s value in all of that,Curry noted.

When a band’s going on a tour, I think Phil Jackson instilled that in him, and he used that as a reference for how we need to play and how we need to approach our identity. It’s going to take a long time to get through this year in terms of doing that, but it’s great to have a reference.” Well, Kerr’s Chicago reference certainly seemed to work for his team, as everyone indeed played their roles.

While Stephen Curry took center stage, Draymond Green did the dirty work for the Warriors, as usual. The veteran center muscled for position with Victor Wembanyama during the fourth quarter. So much so that the officials had to separate both of them three times during an inbound play.

While Green did storm off the court after collecting his fifth foul in the final quarter, he did disrupt Wembanyama’s flow. Meanwhile, Jimmy Butler also played his part, scoring 21 points alongside Brandin Podziemski and Will Richard, both of whom added 10 each. It was a complete team effort by the Warriors on Friday night. However, while everyone within the roster was celebrating back-to-back wins over the Spurs, Stephen Curry was given another reason to do so.

Stephen Curry has come one step closer to overtaking Michael Jordan

Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry has achieved so much that people often wonder what’s left for him to accomplish. How about overtaking NBA legend Michael Jordan for 40+ point games after turning 30? Well, the 37-year-old took a huge step in that direction on Friday, thanks to his massive 49-point haul against the Spurs.

Curry has now tied MJ’s record with forty-four, 40+ point games since turning 30. This was a huge moment for the four-time NBA champion, who will now aim to overtake the Chicago Bulls icon in one of the upcoming games, given the kind of form he is currently in. Nonetheless, when asked whether he was aware of having achieved this feat, Curry gave a hilarious reply.

“Very aware,” Steph said with a broad smile on his face. He then went on to explain that he tried to celebrate his achievement by paying homage to MJ, but botched it a little by throwing the ’23’ sign backwards. “I threw it up backward, though. That’s the second time I’ve done that. But that’s pretty cool just from an individual accomplishment perspective. Longevity is something I pride myself on.”

It’s safe to say Curry was more than happy to tie with Michael Jordan, someone he idolizes, similar to most of his peers. Nonetheless, he and the Warriors will shift their focus back to the court, looking to extend the momentum they gained, as they take on the Pelicans next, who will enter the game without their head coach, Willie Green, following his firing.
