Draymond Green has been the talk of the town these past couple of days. Anyone with access to the internet must have come across the viral clips of Green holding Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert in a chokehold, à la MMA. Many fans and analysts came out with criticism of Draymond’s actions. 

This is not his first time, though. The forward is known to be a bit of a hot-head on the court. And he does not shy away from fully expressing his emotions. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has been supportive of Green but now it seems like even he is over it.

Steve feels Draymond went “too far”

Speaking before their match-up against Oklahoma City, Kerr shared that Green’s actions are inexcusable and has to find a way to stop himself. He added that physical acts of violence were inexcusable. Steve explained, “I didn’t have a problem with him getting Rudy off of Klay. Because the rule of the thumb is you don’t put your hands on the player on the other team. You get your own guy. I thought that Rudy was wrong for putting his hand on Klay, regardless of his intentions”. 

“Yes, he definitely took it too far.”

Steve added further that while he did not have a problem with Draymond getting involved to save Klay Thompson, he agrees that the 33-year-old should have let go immediately. “He hung on for six, seven seconds. And it was a terrible visual for the league and for Draymond, for everybody”. The head coach also supported the five-game suspension for Green, saying that, “it was deserved”.

Kerr takes back his support for Green

After Wednesday’s match, Steve Kerr came in defense of Draymond, saying that he only went for his teammate. He said, “If you watch the replay, Rudy had his hands on Klay’s neck and that’s why Draymond went after Rudy, and that’s how I saw one replay right after it happened”. Kerr stood firm in his belief that Draymond only went after Rudy because he attacked Klay and that was a justifiable action.

Now, however, it looks like the coach has had a change of mind. The two teams will not be against each other until March of next year. By then we hope they would have gotten past this because it would be a very crucial match in the lead-up to the play-offs.
