The Washington Wizards have had a terrible season so far. They have won only three games this season and are the second-worst team in the Eastern Conference. The Wizards had high hopes for their young stars, Kyle Kuzma and Jordan Poole, heading into the season. But the duo has not lived up to the expectations. Kuzma even signed a 4-year $102 million extension with the Wizards this summer after his impressive performance last season.

Kuzma making over $100 million on a bad team did not sit well with tennis star Nick Kyrgios. The Wizards guard retaliated on social media after catching strays from Kyrgios for his multimillion-dollar income.

Nick Kyrgios called Kyle Kuzma out for making $102 million despite being a “moderately talented” NBA player. That is nearly as much money as legend Roger Federer made in prize money during his entire career. Federer is one of the greatest tennis players of all time, and he made only $130 million from tournament money his entire career. “He’s not even a Top 50 player,” Kyrgios said about Kuzma. The Washington Wizards’ forward responded with just three words, “Revenue my brother.”

The NBA is the second-highest revenue-generating sports league in the world, behind the National Football League. The league generated a whopping $10.58 billion in revenue last season. That is a $500 million increase from the previous year. NBA is ahead of leagues like the MLB, IPL, and EPL. It is basic economics that an athlete makes money according to the revenue he generates for his team and the league. The multi-billion-dollar revenue of the NBA is the reason why Kyle Kuzma is taking home a $102 million paycheck.

Is Kyle Kuzma worth his contract?

Kyle Kuzma might not be a Top 50 player like Nick Kyrgios said. But he is still one of the stars in the NBA. Kuzma proved his worth when he helped the Los Angeles Lakers win a Championship in 2020. Kuzma played crucial minutes alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis and averaged 10 points and 3.1 rebounds in the playoffs. Even after Kuzma got traded to Washington, his numbers have improved each season. Kuzma averaged 21.2 points and 7.2 rebounds last season, which earned him his contract extension.

Despite the Wizards’ struggles this year, Kuzma is having a decent individual season. He has improved his number to 23 points per game. The former champion has proven he is worth his $102 million contract. Maybe Nick Kyrgios should shift focus from Kuzma’s paycheck and think about why the best tennis players in the world are not getting paid like some of the athletes in the NBA.
