The impending All-Star weekend is creating quite the buzz. After the starters were announced last week, anticipation is palpable for the reserves. Some big names could potentially miss out. Even Stephen Curry, considered a perennial All-Star selection doesn’t have a guaranteed place yet. Several others like him are hoping to show out in Indiana. The biggest rookie phenomenon since LeBron James – Victor Wembanyama also has his fingers crossed.

A 7’4″ anomaly, Wembanyama has amazed the NBA fanbase. Of course, he hasn’t transitioned his game fully yet. However, the Frenchman has shown enough to prove he is the up-and-coming star of the future. Already leading the league in blocks per game, Wemby has marked his territory down.

All he is hoping is that it is enough to convince the head coaches around the league.

Victor Wembanyama is hopeful of being an All-Star reserve

Wembanyama is the ROTY favorite at this point in the season. In the beginning, there was a debate. People juggled between Chet Holmgren and Wemby. However, now that the Spurs have readily built around him and made him the focal point of their organization, he has started to produce more consistently.

His shooting numbers are getting better. Victor Wembanyama is probably a cheat as a rim protector. His overwhelmingly large presence simply can’t be missed. The fact that he leads the league in blocks (the entire league, not just rookies) is definite proof.

“It’s a dream for anyone to be part of that All-Star weekend, so it’s a chance,” said the lanky Wembanyama.

Wembanayama has had a stellar season so far. Averaging 20.6, he is slowly developing his offense. However, the nightmares have started as a defensive goliath. With the long wing span and 7,4″ stature, you can imagine what he can do. Games with 5+ blocks have become a regularity. If he does manage to woo the head coaches, Wemby will become the first rookie since Blake Griffin in 2011 to be named an All-Star.
