Even though he played just 20 games in the NBA, Shammgod Wells left an impact in the basketball world that only few players can match. Wells, better known as God Shammgod, was one of the Greatest and most innovative ball handlers in the history of the game. He was drafted by the Washington Wizards in 1997, at a time when the league was more center-dominated. With giants like Shaquille O’Neal wreaking havoc on the league, Shammgod could not fit into the kind of basketball that was played in that era.

God Shammgod is amazed by Kyrie Irving

Many consider Kyrie Irving the Greatest Ball Handler of All Time. So, when God Shammgod showed up at the Knuckleheads Podcast hosted by Quentin Richardson and Darius Miles, the hosts could not help but ask Shammgod about joining forces with another elite ball handler. “It’s all smiles.” Shammgod said on his relationship with Kyrie. Irving was traded to the Dallas Mavericks earlier this year, after his fallout with the Brooklyn Nets. After Kyrie’s trade got finalized, Shammgod welcomed the 8-time All-Star with a hilarious comment, “Cool. Now we got the second-best dribbler in the NBA.”

After an abrupt start to his stint in Dallas, Kyrie Irving signed a 3-year $120 million with the team this off-season. This means that God Shammgod will get more time with Kyrie, and the Mavericks guard can add some new moves to his already stuffed bag. Shammgod was a legend back in the day and continues to inspire young athletes. His crossover move ‘The Shammgod’ is so iconic that fans are forced to leave their seats in awe when a player hits a defender with that move.

Shammgod’s legend grew at a time when there was no social media or viral clips. “In our era, if you heard about somebody, it was word of mouth. You really knew the person was that dude.” Said Shammgod about how his popularity grew in the 90s.

With two of the best ball handlers being part of the same organization, fans can only imagine what would have happened if God Shammgod was born a few years later and played in the Modern NBA. The duo of Kyrie Irving and God Shammgod would have been must-see TV for the entire basketball world.
