The San Antonio Spurs were hosting the fast New York Knicks when the crowd at AT&T Center held their breath. San Antonio’s pride, Victor Wembanyama was seen limping to the locker room. It seems like Wemby hit his knees with Jeremy Sochan after he assisted on a Devin Vassell triple. The injury happened at the 6:40 mark in the first quarter.

He immediately rubbed his knees and hobbled to the bench before slowly moving to the locker room accompanied by trainers.

It seems like the knee injury wasn’t too big of an issue as the Knicks reporter’s further update showed Victor Wembanyama returning the game.

Being back seems to have done the forward a world of good as the third quarter saw him with a double-double. But it shouldn’t be a surprise, considering how well the French rookie has been playing the season. Despite Jalen Brunson’s brilliant 45 points, 63% shooting from the field, and 50% from beyond the arc in three quarters, the Spurs led 103-94 in the fourth. In fact, the first half saw San Antonio start and finish strong. Well into the last minute, there was no doubt the game went down as one of the best matches of Pop’s rebuilding team 130-126.

Victor Wembanyama is unlike anything the NBA world has ever seen

We all know how LeBron James and Luka Doncic are breaking records and creating a few others every other night. But for a rookie to be achieving similar milestones within a month is surely inconceivable. The 7’4 20-year-old phenom from Le Chesnay is living right up to his hype and then some more.

The Spurs game on March 17 against Brooklyn saw Wemby with a monster stat line – 33 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists, and seven blocks. This has only been done three times in league history prior to Victor Wembanyama. And they include some of the elite names in the NBA – Joel Embiid and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (twice). But none of them were rookies nor did they do it at 20. Embiid was 23 and Abdul-Jabbar achieved it first when he was 27 and next, at 33.

But this is just one instance in the latest of his achievements. Here’s a look at some in the last month.

  • The February 29 game of OKC vs San Antonio saw Wembanyama with seven assists, five blocks, and five threes. There have only been three players in the NBA to have been a part of the five-five-five club – Robert Horry, Walt Williams, and Donte Green. None of them, once again, were 20 when they posted these numbers.
  • During the Spurs’ loss to the Lakers on February 23, Wemby’s numbers were 27 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists, 5 blocks, and steals each. The only other player to post a similar stat line was Hakeem Olajuwon.
  • Just the night before, he joined another group of players with his 19 points, 13 rebounds, 5 steals, 5 blocks, and 4 assists. Olajuwon, Robinson, and Jusuf Nurkic were the other players who have done this before, with Hakeem repeating it five times.
