In order to draw in more casual fans to the games and increase the viewership, the NBA decided to introduce the new In-Season Tournament. Essentially, it was a series of games within the regular season where the teams would face each other twice. The points earned from these games will be added to their regular standings.

The tournament began last Friday and has been going well, for some at least. There have been complaints about the court from some players regarding their footing on the painted surface. Indiana Pacers’ Myles Turner and Tyrese Haliburton said they felt like they were slipping on their home court floor when it debuted last week. And now, there are new issues cropping up from the Dallas camp.

Dallas Mavericks’ court is unplayable

The Dallas Mavericks are playing their first game of the tournament. They will tip off against the LA Clippers on home grounds. And, it is being reported that they will not be playing there. A spokesperson from the NBA reported that it was due to some “manufacturing issues.”

With this, the Mavs will be playing on their ‘core court’, American Airlines Center. This is not the first time this has happened. The In-Season court of the Denver Nuggets also had a few issues. On the first night of the tournament, the 3-point line on the court needed to be repainted because the dimensions were incorrect. It was changed in time and the match was played on Denver’s blue and gold court.

The new court designs

The new bold and distinctive design scheme was introduced to all 30 teams in the league. It was to ensure that the fans clearly knew when a game was played with the NBA In-Season Tournament implications. With this unified look, it is the first time that an alternate court is implemented for all the teams. This is also the first time that the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans Pelicans, and Portland Trail Blazers play on an alternate court in their franchise history.

The fans, however, did not seem to like these new courts. Many claimed that the fully painted courts clashed with the jersey colors, also newly introduced, of the teams. And some colors, like that of the Dallas Mavericks, could have been better.
