With tonight’s announcement of the All-Star Reserves, the fans know the names of all the superstars who will play in the 2024 All-Star game. While the NBA World was satisfied with most selections, Trae Young’s name being off the list did not sit well with them. The Atlanta Hawks superstar failed to even make the Reserves list despite averaging 27 points and having the second-highest assist average in the league.

Meanwhile, Damian Lillard was named an All-Star starter, despite having worse numbers than Ice Trae. Dame got tormented by the fans for getting his 1st ever All-Star start, while Trae Young got snubbed from the Reserves list in a controversial fashion. One fan asked on X, “So now that we have the whole list, why exactly is Dame an All-Star over Trae Young?” The NBA World followed suit.

Fans compared both superstars’ stats and were shocked to find out that Trae was better than or tied with Dame in 9 out of 12 statistical categories.

Several fans blamed Lillard for being the reason Trae did not make the All-Star team and demanded an investigation.

Fans also blamed the public voting format, as that was the reason Dame got the nod as a starter over New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson.

Trae Young and Damian Lillard have faced each other twice this season and are tied with a 1-1 record. Trae is averaging a whopping 27 points and 10.9 assists. Meanwhile, Dame is only averaging 25.1 points and 6.8 assists. Apart from points and assists, Trae has better stats than Dame in steals, field goal percentage, three-point percentage, and more. However, the biggest reason Dame got the nod over Trae was their regular season record.

Why did Lillard get picked over Young?

Although the fans were furious at Dame for becoming an All-Star starter while Trae got snubbed, there was a clear reason for that happening. Trae was a fan favorite over Dame as he received the 2nd highest votes among Eastern Conference guards, with Lillard a close 3rd. But the fan votes do not count for the Reserves selections. And the media and the players consider a player’s regular season record.

Despite Trae having a great statistical year, the Atlanta Hawks are one of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference. They are 10th in the East with a 20-27 record. Meanwhile, Lillard has led the Milwaukee Bucks to the 2nd seed in the East with a 32-16 record. Even though Dame got a lot of support from Giannis, his winning record earned him more votes than Trae.
