Rudy Gobert stepped in to pull Thompson away, but Draymond immediately sprung into action and scooped Gobert away in a chokehold. As a result, Draymond, Thompson, and McDaniels were instantly ejected from the game. The league then deliberated on the matter and decided to suspend Draymond from five games without pay.

Draymond will most likely take a financial hit

During an interview, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst pointed out that Draymond’s suspension was more significant because of his past transgressions. He also says that the Executive VP and Head of Basketball Operations of the league, Joe Dumars, was among those who made the decision. Joe also shares a close relationship with Draymond, to the point of being a “father figure” to him.

This did not stop him from issuing the suspension verdict. Before this, Draymond had been suspended four times, three by the league and one by the Warriors. Despite this, the Warriors still gave him $100 million in the off-season. However, Brian said, “Going forward, Draymond needs to be aware that he will not be treated the same as everybody else.” Draymond’s $100 million contract with the Warriors looks bleak, and Draymond will most definitely take a substantial financial hit.

The longest suspension in the NBA in more than a decade

Before the season started, Draymond had been ejected 16 times over his career. The most recent one makes it 17.?Brian also mentioned that Draymond’s suspension is the “longest suspension in the NBA for an on-court act in more than a decade.” In its press release, the NBA also mentioned that the length of Draymond’s suspension was based on his history of unsportsmanlike acts.

Considering all this, we now notice a pattern in Draymond’s misdemeanors. Brian said, “Every time?Draymond comes into a game, he carries baggage with him.” Well, now Draymond has to pay the price for his unwarranted reaction toward Rudy Gobert; this time, his pockets will hurt.

Draymond should’ve probably thought about the consequences before launching at Rudy.
