“With the 7th pick in the WNBA draft, the Chicago Sky select Angel Reese.” Cheers filled the arena after WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert made this announcement during tonight’s draft. After leaving her footprint at the collegiate level, LSU star Angel Reese is headed to Skytown to join forces with  #3 pick Kamilla Cardoso. The 21-year-old Forward’s biggest career moment even left Ja Morant’s sister, Teniya, swollen with pride.

Teniya expressed her joy by sharing a picture of Angel on her Instagram story. She also had some words of motivation for the Chicago Sky’s latest recruit ahead of her WNBA journey. “My soul sister, proud of you, bookie. Be great!!” followed by several heart emojis.

Reese and Teniya’s relationship goes long back. They have been friends for a long time and have even showered each other with love publicly on several occasions. After Teniya announced her commitment to Mississippi Valley State University last year, Reese was among the first to congratulate Ja’s sister on her new journey. Reese wrote, “Congrats baby… see you game 2.” The LSU star kept her competitive spirit alive while welcoming Teniya to the next stage of her career.

Unfortunately, Reese and Teniya could not go head-to-head in college. But it is great to see that they still share a strong bond and are there for each other in the important moments.

Angel Reese is ready to wreak havoc in the WNBA

“From Baltimore to the Bayou to wherever you go next in the @WNBA…Keep being you @Reese10Angel”, this was LSU’s last message to Reese after she entered her name into the 2024 WNBA draft. Reese’s impact on LSU Women’s basketball is undeniable, and she will go down as one of their greatest players. Bayou Barbie did the unthinkable by beating Caitlin Clark and Co. in the NCAA final to win the national title in 2023. Although Reese could not go back-to-back this year, she finished with an illustrious college career.

In just two seasons with LSU, Reese has propelled her basketball game to the next level. She led the Tigers to grab their first championship, with 61 double-doubles, along with 20.9 points and 14.4 rebounds each game. She even had 3 separate streaks of 10 straight double-doubles with her stint at the Baton Rouge.

She quickly became the first player since Wendy Scholtens to lead the league in terms of scoring and rebounding. In fact, in the last two seasons, she was averaging 20 points and 20 rebounds in 7 games straight. It’s a wonderful feat for all WNBA fans across the world to see her become the future of the Sky.

After entering the WNBA draft, Reese revealed why she felt ready to take the next step. “I’ve won a national championship. I’ve gotten (SEC) Player of the Year, I’ve been an All-American. My ultimate goal is to be a pro… and to be one of the greatest basketball players to play, ever. I feel like I’m ready.”

With that mentality, it is safe to say that Reese will try to dominate at the highest level and continue elevating Women’s basketball as she did in college. She is open to learning from her veteran leaders in Chicago and looking forward to teaming up with her long-time college rival, Kamilla. Reese was filled with emotions after the Chicago Sky selected her and was proud of “leaving her impact” on women’s basketball. Hopefully, she will continue to do the same in the WNBA.
