The 2018 Rookie of The Year Ben Simmons‘ last few seasons were rough. The 3-time NBA All-Star was one of the pillars of the Philadelphia 76ers franchise. But everything changed in the 2021 Eastern Conference Semis when Ben Simmons and Co. faced the Atlanta Hawks. He choked in the closing minutes of Game 7, passing up a wide-open layup leading to the elimination of the 76ers. The 6’11” guard was subsequently traded to the Brooklyn Nets and has not been able to perform at an elite level since.

But after recovering from a lingering back injury, Ben Simmons made bold claims about dominating the NBA next season. Days after his comments, former NBA executive Amin Elhassan hyped the former ROTY, comparing him with Draymond Green and Bam Adebayo.

Ben Simmons’ comeback hype

In the latest episode of Oddball with Amin Elhassan and Charlotte Wilder, Amin addressed the expectations of Ben Simmons winning the Most Improved Player next season in his Hype Me Up segment. The former NBA executive acknowledged Ben Simmons’ greatness before the Philadelphia debacle, “You were on the way to the Hall of Fame, with your all-around game.” The former 76ers Point Guard was an elite player before the 2021 season, making 3 All-Star teams and 2 All-Defensive First teams.

With Ben Simmons’ size and versatile skillset of defending, passing, and athleticism, Amin compared him with other NBA superstars, “You can be like Draymond Green, like Bam Adebayo. The engine that makes everybody around them go.”

When Simmons was in his prime, he made the players around him better with his elite passing skills and basketball IQ. Amin believes Simmons has the capability to do it again next season and make a dominant comeback provided he works on his weakness.

Ben Simmons’ shooting problem

Ben Simmons has a big weakness in his game that has haunted him throughout his career. He cannot shoot. The 3-time All-Star has made only 5 three-pointers in his career, which are underwhelming numbers for a point guard. His weakness got exposed in the playoffs, and defenders left him wide open at the three-point line. That did a number on Ben Simmons as he lost his confidence.

Amin addressed Simmons’ shooting problem, “You gotta get over not being able to shoot. All you gotta do is just keep dunking on them.”  At 6’11”, he is one of the tallest guards in the league, which can hide his shooting inability. Ben made a strong statement about being ready to dominate the league next season.
