A Russian musician and former inmate at the IK-14 penal colony in Yavas recently shared her experience surviving through the harshest and most inhumane conditions. She revealed a horrifying truth that Griner could be ‘hiding’ from friends and family. BG has recently begun her 9-year sentence in the IK-2 penal colony in the remote region of Morvodia. The founding member of the Russian feminist protest and music group Pussy Riot, Nadya Tolokonnikova, recently opened up about the horrors Brittney Griner could face inside the infamous penal colony.
Tolokonnikova spent nearly two years in a penal colony for protesting against President Vladimir Putin; under ‘hooliganism’ charges. In a recent interview with MSNBC, the Pussy Riot member was worried that Brittney Griner is being held in the IK-2, the harshest colony in the Russian prison system. Tolokonnikova claimed to know all chief officials working in the IK-2 colony. She revealed that inmates often face human rights abuses and physical torture on a daily basis.

Brittney Griner could face torture & inhumane labor
The 34-year-old stated that prisoners have to work in slave-like conditions for up to 17 hours a day with no days off in IK-2. If the inmates fail to fulfill their daily quota, they face daily torture; resulting in suicides sometimes. In addition, she reckoned that the prison doctors also refrain from acknowledging the torture.

Further, Nadya Tolokonnikova said, “So, what I would be really scared of is Brittney hiding the fact that she is being heavily oppressed in this penal colony because that’s what happened with me.”
Tolokonnikova was threatened that the whole penal colony would suffer the consequences of speaking up about the abuses. So, she kept quiet about the torture for a year. Thus, Tolokonnikova feared that Brittney Griner might hide the details of her abuse from her friends and family.

However, Tolokonnikova continued to protest with hunger strikes, which brought attention to the tortures in the penal colony. As a result, the chief officials of the penal colony were brought to trial, and some were sent to jail.
Tolokonnikova offers Griner a crucial advice
Nadya Tolokonnikova advised BG to take her time minute by minute. She pointed out that one never knows when they will be attacked by the prison authorities. The Russian musician was hopeful that Griner could avoid extreme abuse due to the media attention she has.

Thus, Tolokonnikova laid out the terrible conditions Griner might be dealing with in IK-2. She stated that BG should keep believing in her freedom and not give up.
