Serena Williams is the greatest female tennis player ever. There is no doubt about that. She is also regarded by many as one of the greatest athletes of all time, male or female. However, former NBA champion Robert Horry took it one step further. He called her “the greatest athlete of all time“.
Williams recently got knocked out during the third round of the US Open. Subsequently, she got a standing ovation from the crowd who recognized her greatness and saw it as an opportunity to thank her for a great career that stretched across decades. Williams lost to Australian player Aija Tomljanovic 7-5 6-7 6-1. She has won all the trophies and accolades there is to win for a player of her caliber. In addition, she came back from pregnancy and dominated the court like nothing has happened.

Robert Horry saw all of this and had to hail her as the greatest athlete ever. “To me, she is the greatest athlete of all time, men or women,” he declared in a recent podcast. According to Horry, he has seen no man come back from pregnancy and deliver on the court like Serena has. In fact, he believes that women receive very less praise for such feats. He added, “What man has ever gone out and had a damn kid and comeback like that.”
Generally, male athletes like Michael Jordan and LeBron James dominate the conversation for greatest athletes. However, according to Horry, no male athlete has proven to be lethal after going through something like pregnancy. Therefore, Serena deserves the edge in the discussion for the greatest athlete ever.
Serena Williams is indeed the greatest tennis player ever
