The Los Angeles Lakers had a pretty rocky start in the 2022-23 pre-season. Out of the five games they have played to date, the Lakers have only been able to win one. While NBA fans might have started losing hope, Lakers star Anthony Davis has sent a ‘warning’ to those who are underestimating the team.
AD recently appeared on an NBA radio show where he said that no one other than his team is expecting them to win this season. SiriusXM NBA Radio released the short clip on October 14, 2022, and Twitterati is not willing to stay calm on this.

Anthony Davis joined the Lakers in 2019 and won his first-ever NBA championship in the 2019-20 season. However, the team was visibly struggling during the next two seasons. In the short clip released by SiriusXM, Anthony Davis recalled what fans thought of the team when he first joined.

AD said that back in 2019, the Los Angeles Lakers were considered to be the “gold standard”. Fans might agree with this statement as the team went on to win the 2019-20 season championship title after 10 long years.
Anthony Davis is optimistic about the 2022-23 season
Things started looking bad for the Los Angeles Lakers after they failed to shine in the next two seasons after their epic win. A championship ring seemed like a long shot as the team couldn’t even make the playoffs in the 2021-22 season. Nevertheless, it seems like AD is feeling pretty positive about the 2022-23 season despite what the NBA world might have thought.

“Obviously, we don’t really care. We just go out there and play basketball and perform, but it’s also the truth. I mean, no one has us winning it this year besides us in this organization,” said AD.
Furthermore, he said: “We feel like we’re the underdogs. And I think everybody on this team has something to prove. I feel like everyone on this team has a chip on their shoulder and is going to come out ready to play this season.”
However, Twitterati seems to have a different opinion on this. Fans called out the Lakers star for seemingly giving out ’empty promises’.

The nickname ‘Street Clothes’ started trending after NBA player turned analyst Charles Barkley began calling AD by that name. The name was given to Davis because he was mostly seen in regular clothes rather than the team’s jersey due to Davis’ history of missing out on games dues to several injuries.
“The Lakers can’t win this series without ‘Street Clothes’. I call him Anthony ‘Street Clothes’ Davis because he’s always in street clothes,” said Barkley.
