Shaquille O’Neal has sincerity when it comes to charity. The NBA Hall of Famer never shies away to lend a helping hand to the less fortunate. However, the 4x NBA champion has sometimes been accused of doing charity just for the sake of publicity. Shaq recently revealed how money has never been a barrier for him to give back to society in the very first episode of the Motalk podcast.

Shaq possesses tremendous business acumen. The clever investments over time have helped him immensely in shaping his current net value. With such solid financial backing, many of his critics believe that Shaq does charity for publicity’s sake. The 7’1 big man dived deeper while addressing the allegations.

During the one-on-one with the pop sensation, Shaq was asked what motivated him to maintain his philanthropic nature. Reacting to that, Shaq described that it wasn’t philanthropic for him. He reflected on how his mother always emphasized that “it costs you nothing to be nice, make sure you take care of people, make them smile.”

The 2-time scoring champ revealed how he wished everyone had acres and big houses but unfortunately don’t. Shaq then reminisced about his struggling days with his mother as a child and how his heart aches for people in a similar scenario. “Seven grand ain’t nothing to me…it’s just about making people smile,” O’Neal added.

The 15x NBA All-Star told Monica how the word about his good deeds pans out among the people. He also commented on why press coverage is of no relevance to this situation.

I got 15 commercials running right now, I don’t need no press, I don’t need people to like me. But if I can help a mom out…I always do that,” the 51-year-old revealed.
