American rapper Kanye West’s alleged anti-Semitic comments have cost him nearly a billion dollars. West targeted the community after he accused record producer Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs of being controlled by the Jewish people. Kanye wrote some remarks on Twitter that many people construed as offensive against the Jewish community, leading to a lot of criticism. Recently, six-time NBA champ Kareem Abdul-Jabbar supported another massive setback for Kanye West in terms of music popularity after his net worth dropped down to $400 million.
Many multinational brands, including Balenciaga, J.P. Morgan bank, the Gap, Def Jam, and talent agency CAA have cut ties with West following his comments. Recently, Adidas also ended their relationship with the controversial rapper. Subsequently, his net worth plummeted from $1.5 billion to merely $400 million, as per Forbes.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar recently shared his perspective on the Kanye West saga on his online platform Kareem.substack. He criticized West for making extreme comments against the Jewish community without thinking about the consequences. The 19-time All-Star felt that West’s comments will act as a mic for white supremacist groups. And they may use the remarks as justification to spread hatred and racism.

Further, Kareem was happy about the drop in West’s music on various platforms. He reckoned that the depreciation in Kanye’s music was a hopeful response against hate speech. The Los Angeles Lakers icon said, “Since his comments, West’s music has taken a hit: airplay is down 13% and streaming is down 23%- though in a just and enlightened world it would be down 100%.”
