Fans can probably agree that you don’t mess or joke with Michael Jordan, unless you can handle his comeback replies. The NBA legend is known to intimidate his opponents, or anyone in particular, with his trash-talking and blunt replies. Therefore, most people tend to think twice before saying anything funny to His Airness that could possibly put him in a foul mood, especially if you are a rookie in the business. However, one young ‘reporter’ didn’t get the memo and had to learn it the embarrassing way.

Back in the 90s, Michael Jordan was at the peak of his career, winning championship after championship with the Chicago Bulls. The Hall of Famer had become a global icon and everybody wanted to meet the superstar who had put the Chicago Bulls on the basketball map. However, when a ‘reporter’ finally got the chance, things didn’t go exactly how he had hoped.

Mark Carman from FanSided once recalled a peculiar encounter with Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan that felt like as a cold splash of water on his head. Carman loved sports and was a huge Michael Jordan fan from his early years. Therefore, he signed up for play-by-play classes by reporter Red Mottlow. One of the major reasons he did so was because the students were permitted to go to the locker room for interview sessions with the players.

The opportunity knocked on Carman’s door on November 5, 1996. Michael Jordan’s Bulls had just defeated the Vancouver Grizzlies by 96-73 bringing up the red and black team to 3-0 in the series. Moreover, Jordan’s movie Space Jam was just a few days away from the release date. Consequently, the six-time NBA champion was in a great mood and was wholeheartedly indulged in the interview sessions.

Carman was lucky enough to get the opportunity to talk to Jordan in the first meeting. An excited Carman was just thinking what question he would ask the Bulls legend when he recalled one of MJ’s recent interview. Jordan had recently appeared in Oprah’s show, where he and the host had a hearty laugh over an old dance video. Carman thought he could ask Jordan to ‘do the dance again in front of us for old time sake?!’. However, things didn’t turn out the way Carman had expected.

He recalled the embarrassing moment in his journalistic career vividly, “Jordan turned. Glared at me. The smile was gone. Looked down. Paused. Then said disapprovingly while shaking his head back and forth, ‘Don’t jump in.‘”

After that Jordan walked away ending the session abruptly. A red-faced Carman quickly learned that ‘you don’t get to play and have fun at the expense of MJ’.

Jordan has got some moves

Just a day before the Mark Carman incident, Michael Jordan had gone to The Oprah Winfrey Show to promote his movie Space Jam. While talking about his debut film, Oprah shared that she had acquired an old video of the 6x NBA Finals MVP.
