Andrew Wiggins is a very important role player for the Golden State Warriors. He was the third-highest scorer today against the Dallas Mavericks as he put down 19 points and had 5 rebounds. Wiggins supported Jordan Poole and Stephen Curry as the Warriors won 112-87 in Game 1 of their Western Conference Final Series against the Mavericks. He was great against the Memphis Grizzlies as well. His two-way play is quite underrated in the league. But the players know how valuable he is.
His dedication to the team cannot be questioned. Last year, he asked his girlfriend Mychal Johnson to delay his second child’s birth as she went to labor as, at the same time, he was preparing for a regular season match. Yet, he had his dedication questioned much of last year, according to Connor Letourneau, Warriors reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle. Hence, Connor revealed this little anecdote about Wiggins. He said, ” This is a guy who, a couple weeks ago, his girlfriend was going into labor. He had her delay inducing labor so that he can play a regular-season NBA game for the Warriors. Immediately after the game was over, he was like, ‘Yep, time to induce labor. I’ll be there.”

Wiggins and Johnson have been together since 2013. Johnson, too, played college level basketball for Notre Dame, where they probably met each other as players. Since then, they have had a happy family with two little kids.

Andrew Wiggins has been a vital part of the Golden State Warriors this season. The big three of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green needed support and hence got it from him. He was their primary defender against Mavericks’ star Luka Doncic and forced him to have just 20 points and reduced shooting numbers. Doncic, who appeared monster like against the Phoenix Suns, was mostly neutered against the Warriors defense, mainly due to Wiggins.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr said, “I just think that Andrew is in a really good groove. He’s had an excellent off season for the Warriors. This is who he is. He’s been really really consistent at both ends.” He has turned out to be a dependable player for the team. His contribution on both sides enhance the team and gives it balance. He has been a plus 99 in all playoff games against both Denver and Golden State. Wiggins may have been underrated throughout by fans of the sport, but he is showing why the team trusts him.
