“Best Guard in the League Is Back”: Heartbreak Follows Good News for Michael Jordan Fans as LaMelo Ball’s Return Comes With a Bitter Side Dish

The Charlotte Hornets have long anticipated the return of their rising star, LaMelo Ball to the lineup. At 7-21, they would have expected to turn things around with LaMelo, back in action. Michael Jordan fans as well were eager to see his favorite player take on the court. The Hornets, however, still couldn’t take flight.

Shams Charania of ‘The Athletic‘ reported on the All-Star’s return to the lineup. He also added that the Hornets were optimistic about the comeback.

Fans were excited to see LaMelo’s comeback and tagged him as the “best guard in the league“. But did his skills propel his team to victory?

The Hornets played against the Detroit Pistons who stand at 8-22 in the NBA table. Their game on Wednesday night at the Spectrum Center drew many eyeballs since LaMelo Ball returned after missing several games. He was out due to an ankle injury which put the Hornets’ performances at risk. The franchise has struggled without LaMelo.

Though LaMelo finished the game with 23 points and 1 rebound, his team didn’t survive the overtime. The Charlotte Hornets were forced to swallow the bitter pill.

Why was it a bitter dish for LaMelo Ball?

It was also bitter to face the harsh truth that the Pistons who were at the bottom of the Eastern Conference managed to win. Currently, the Hornets are the last seed on the table.

Sports Illustrated wrote, “As for Pistons, they are the only team in the East that is worse than the Hornets“.

The former Rookie of the Year was seen handling the ball after almost a month. He was sidelined for a chunk of time for the same injury. He missed the first 13 games and then missed another 11. This is LaMelo’s fourth game this season so far.

LaMelo Ball has been averaging 19.3 points and 7 assists and has definitely been a crowd favorite. Especially since, he has been lauded by Michael Jordan himself, LaMelo shoulders a ton of expectations.

Prior to the game, LaMelo spoke to the media. “I feel great. Ready to get back out there and just hopefully get it going“, he said.
