Brittney Griner is dealing with one of the most unfortunate situations an athlete could face. She is serving a nine-year prison sentence in a notorious penal colony in Russia for drug trafficking charges. The 2014 WNBA champion has been a great ambassador for the league for a long time now. Therefore, she has received a lot of support from celebrities and fans from all around the world. Amid the horrors of a penal colony, Minnesota Lynx star Aerial Powers has suggested that Griner could still ‘profit off’ her miserable Russian prison sentence.
Aerial Powers has been a part of the WNBA since 2016. She won the WNBA championship in 2019 with the Washington Mystics. Powers has also been serving as an ambassador of the Jordan Brand since 2021.

On November 30th, Aerial Powers made an appearance at the 2022 FN Achievement Awards in New York, where the Jordan Brand won the Brand of the Year award. Meanwhile, Powers also talked about Brittney Griner‘s disheartening detention in Russia.
Aerial Powers wishes the best for Brittney Griner
In a recent interview with Footwear News, Aerial Powers shared her opinion on Brittney Griner’s incarceration. Powers pointed out that there have been a lot of comments that BG committed a crime and deserved the current circumstances she is facing. However, the World University Games gold medalist felt that Griner doesn’t deserve the dreadful and inhumane conditions of a penal colony.

Meanwhile, Aerial Powers hoped that Griner would stay strong enough to get past her incarceration in Russia. She felt particularly distressed because she knew the 2014 WNBA champ personally and had played video games with her.

Furthermore, Powers suggested a way that could help Brittney Griner profit off her horrible prison experience in Russia. Aerial Powers stated, “I hope that this fueled her and she’s documenting everything, she’s writing down daily how she feels, what’s happening so when she come back to us she can write a book and maybe profit off of this in some way.”
Therefore, Powers highlighted the importance of always looking at the bright side of things, even during taxing times. She also suggested that Griner could make a significant impact by sharing her experience to the world. Moreover, the Lynx star revealed that it was really hard for her to think about Brittney Griner’s situation. Powers felt that any WNBA player could have been stuck in Griner’s terrible nightmare.
