Brittney Griner’s location has finally been revealed after two weeks since her transfer process began on November 9. Griner will be staying at a penal colony located in the Mordovian region of Russia. The colony is situated around 300 miles southeast of Moscow. The legal team of Brittney Griner paid her a visit earlier this week. Subsequently, her attorneys revealed a huge seven-word message hours after her current location was made public. The hopeful message will be a sigh of relief for BG’s fans who have supported her every step of the way.

Brittney Griner will be serving her nine-year sentence in a female penal colony IK-2 in the remote village of Yavas, Mordovia. Incidentally, US marine Paul Whelan is in a men’s penal colony in the same region.

BG has received no relief from the Russian legal system. Hence, all hopes for Griner’s freedom now lie in the prisoner swap deal proposed by the US State Department earlier in July.

Recently, Russia’s deputy foreign minister, Sergei Ryabkov, gave a positive response to the prisoner swap deal. The Russian official suggested that the Kremlin was interested in bringing Viktor Bout back home. Mr. Ryabkov stated that Bout was among the entities who are under consideration for the prisoner swap deal. He added that the negotiations are ongoing even though a deal is yet to be made.
