The NBA All-Star game is approaching soon. This points to the fact that half the season is almost over. On an episode of NBA on TNT, both Hall of Famers expressed their opinion on who the MVP award should go to. Both of them named their top three candidates. However, Charles Barkley seemed to get really offended when Kenny Smith chose Giannis Antetokounmpo as his favorite.

Charles Barkley’s opinion on Giannis is that “He’s having a great season. He’s not the best player in the world”. Charles believes that other players such as Joel Embiid and DeMar DeRozan should be given due credit for their performances. Chuck feels that they deserve it more than Giannis “because Embiid and DeRozan are doing more with less”.

Chuck feels that The Greek Freak has had a lot of help on his team. However, Deebo has been taking all the weight on his shoulders as other players like Zach LaVine and Alex Caruso have sat out many games. Embiid has also struggled alone in the absence of Ben Simmons throughout the season. “Embiid has been the best player this season. DeMar has been second second best, and Giannis is just there.” said Chuck.

Is Charles Barkley correct in snubbing Giannis?

DeMar DeRozan and Joel Embiid are having exceptional seasons. However, it may not be completely correct of Charles Barkley to completely deny Giannis the MVP title.

Giannis is averaging 29.4 points, 11.2 rebounds and 6 assists. He is also holding up a decent 54.7 field goal percentage. Clearly, Giannis is one of the most dominating big men in the league right now. The kind of athleticism he possesses is hard to come by.

Moreover, Giannis has also been showcasing his defensive abilities this season. He is averaging 1.4 blocks and 0.9 steals per game.

The Greek Freak is currently the leading scorer in the league. If he keeps this up, he will get the scoring title this season. Alongside this, he is also constantly in the conversation for MVP. Although the lead keeps changing quite often, he keeps coming at the top for the MVP race every now and then.
