WNBA star Breanna Stewart has taken to Twitter every single day since Griner’s arrest to tweet out in support of her fellow basketball star. While many have lauded her efforts, some have bashed her for her opinions.

Brittney Griner has been in the limelight for quite some time now. She was arrested earlier this year when officials found traces of cannabis oil in vape cartridges while searching her luggage.

Griner was in Russia in order to join her teammates at UMMC Ekaterinburg. Since her detainment, WNBA star Breanna Stewart, who played with Griner for USA, has tweeted every day for 277 days in support of BG.

Users on Facebook have reacted to this fact with many bashing the star for her dedication towards Griner. One user wrote, “No doubt those tweets will have an impact any day now” while another wrote, “9 yrs is too long for that offense…hopefully she can be released in 3 yrs instead.”

A user brought up former POTUS Donald Trump and how he did a better job in bringing back prisoners from abroad. “Trump was able to get three prisoners back from North Korea. That’s like almost unthinkable” said the comment, with another saying “Doubt Russia cares”.

Users on Twitter took cognizance of Stewart’s efforts of gathering support for Griner. One user wrote, “Thank you for not forgetting her Breanna” while some users wrote, I love you BG #FreeBrittneyGriner” and “I stand with you. I stand with her.”

As the aforementioned reactions suggest, people are divided when it comes to Griner. This has been the usual trend ever since her highly controversial arrest.

What did Stewart say about Griner’s arrest?

Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner was arrested in February which caused shockwaves across the basketball world and beyond. Talking about Griner’s detainment, Stewart said, “The big thing is the fact that we have to go over there. It was BG, but it could have been anybody.”

Russia is a popular destination for WNBA stars who play their offseason abroad in order to earn a living. The leagues in the United States have been criticized on countless occasions for their outrageously low salaries. Hence, many female players feel the need to travel overseas to earn a decent living.
