Miami Heat was filled with star men and were favorites to win the championship. The trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh was efficient, effective, and straight-up deadly. Although it was their first season together, they were promising enough to make everyone think they were invincible. This feeling might have been the reason why James and Wade decided to mock the Dallas star man.

Dirk reportedly played game 4 of the NBA finals under the influence of the flu. “I didn’t appreciate it, but it’s not like I was super mad about it. It was the Finals, it didn’t motivate me anymore,” he said. Even at the time, Dirk showed humility and acted in the best way possible.

He decided to let his game do the talking, which Corey Brewer also commented on.

“Oh for sure [Dirk] took it personally… Everybody did. We saw it, everybody saw it. They were making fun of the big guy. You can’t make fun of the big guy. If you make fun of the big guy you’re making fun of everybody, and I guess that’s kind of the way we went out there and played. We played some great basketball in that series.” said Corey.

Dallas won the finals 4-2 against Miami. Dirk averaged 26 points in the game series and deservedly won the finals MVP. Even when remembering his only NBA championship, he made sure to mention how good the Miami Heat were with “The Big Three”.

“We were super fortunate to run into them in Year 1. They were really hesitant. They hadn’t figured out their roles yet. I think if we ran into them in Year 3, they probably would have beat us handily,” Nowitzki said. These few lines of modesty actually say a lot about The Big German.

The Big German

The only player to record 31,000 points, 10,000 rebounds, 3,000 assists, 1,000 steals, 1,000 blocks and 1,000 3-pointers. Even if Dirk was not the only player to achieve this feat, this in itself is unbelievable and astonishing.

Everyone holds him in high regard and gives him the respect he deserves because of his commendable NBA Championship. His allure is greater than numbers and his nature always has been immensely wholesome. Dirk Nowitzki, The Big German still is one of the greatest to step out on the court.
