It seemed like Lewis Hamilton’s dominance would see no end. Unrivaled for several years, the seven-time world champion would soon see a worthy competitor. That came when a mere 17-year-old would entered the racing world named Max Verstappen. At the age of just 25, Verstappen has risen as an F1 great. The two-time world champion is aggressive with a keen sight of the finish line. And during his interview with GQ, the young gun admitted to being inspired by Michael Jordan.

The Last Dance docuseries is arguably one of the greatest sports documentaries of all time. Surrounding the final season of the iconic Chicago Bulls, fans got the opportunity to experience the inside stories. It was a spectacle for the fans watching Michael Jordan in his killer element. However, it was a different story among the players. Several of his former teammates felt misrepresented. Notably, Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant were both upset with their portrayal in the series.

Verstappen took a liking to the chilling aura and competitiveness of His Airness. However, he also felt some parts of the docuseries were not true, but an exaggeration.

Verstappen slams Michael Jordan for lying?

Max Verstappen is much like Michael Jordan in his sheer inclination to win. His arch-rival, Lewis Hamilton best described the 25-year-old. The Mercedes driver said, “Max is kind of do-or-die. It’s like you’re either crashing or you’re not going by”. And his persona isn’t a surprise as the two-time world champion saw a glimpse of Air Jordan in the Last Dance. Verstappen was impressed with Jordan’s killer instinct. However, he also had a few words of criticism.

Max Verstappen felt the docuseries wasn’t completely accurate. He said: “Of course, not everything about that is 100 percent true, because it’s a documentary and some things for sure are a bit hyped up. But I did like the spirit of Michael Jordan, how he was pushing it, how he was driven to win.”

The Last Dance might not have covered all the truths in the story of the Chicago Bulls. However, it isn’t surprising to see Verstappen resonate with Jordan. Especially since he is cut from the same cloth. In his young F1 career, Verstappen wrote his name in the history books for the most wins in a season with 14, beating Michael Schumacher’s tally of 13. His fashion of winning races is almost too grand. The young superstar still has work to do to catch up to Lewis Hamilton’s seven world championships. However, his current pace will only make for one of the sports’ greatest rivalries.
