Kanye West is today a free agent on the sneaker market. However, there was a time the Yeezys were the hottest shoe on the planet. The Donda artist had successfully created a mega craze among streetwear lovers. Yeezy became a billion-dollar brand. And there was one man he wanted wearing the sneaker. That was none other than NBA’s very own, Stephen Curry.

Just like West, Curry started his sneaker journey with Nike. However, after the first few years, Under Armour swooped him away from the famous swoosh. And that partnership changed their company’s direction forever. In his very next season, Stephen Curry became a household name as he rose to his first All-Star honors. Since then, he has accumulated two MVPs, a Finals MVP, two scoring titles, and four championships. Moreover, he now also has his own subsidiary brand, the Curry brand with Under Armour.

But just two years after he joined them, he got an offer from one of the biggest music artists in the world, Kanye West. The former billionaire openly asked the Golden State Warriors starboy to quit UA.

Kanye West wanted to sign Stephen Curry

After dropping from Nike, Adidas offered West the creative control he wanted on Yeezys. Likewise, he made the most of it. Instantly, they became the biggest come-up in the sneaker market. Since their partnership, Yeezys was responsible for over 40% of the total profit of the German giants. Ever since the beginning of the brand, Ye’s vision was clear. He wanted all the top athletes and stars to be a part. Stephen Curry made that list too.

Despite the offer, Curry remained loyal just like he has with the Warriors. He even responded to Ye, saying that no one gives UA the credit it deserves, While its rise might be directly linked to that of the Baby Face Assassin, some of the world’s biggest stars are in business with them. Notably, fellow NBA star Joel Embiid has his signature sneaker with the brand. In addition, athletes such as Tom Brady, Julio Jones, and Cam Newton are all a part of the elite team created by Under Armour.

It is safe to say CEO Kevin Plank has pulled the right strings with his brand. As the stardom and legend of Stephen Curry keep taking flight, the story of UA has probably only just started.
