Shaquille O’Neal had an illustrious NBA career, winning four championships. Shaq faced some of the greatest players in the history of the game during his career spanning 19 years. However, Shaq admitted in his autobiography that there he couldn’t trash-talk his way out against Tim Duncan.

Shaq and Tim Duncan played as rivals for 14 years in the NBA. Notably, both Shaq and Tim spent 19 years in the league.

Tim Duncan spent his entire career with the Spurs and helped them win several NBA championships. However, he was very underrated during his career. Despite having one of the greatest careers, he has barely been considered in the GOAT conversation among NBA circles. However, Shaq, in his autobiography, Shaq Uncut, admitted that he could never break Tim Duncan with his trash talk.

Shaquille O’Neal admits he failed to trash-talk with Tim Duncan

Shaq revealed in his autobiography that could trash talk to some of the all-time greats of the NBA. However, he admitted that he couldn’t do the same with Tim Duncan. Shaq also added that the Spurs won because of Tim.

“The Spurs won because of Tim Duncan, a guy I could never break,” O’Neal wrote in his autobiography. “I could talk trash to Patrick Ewing, get in David Robinson’s face, get a rise out of Alonzo Mourning, but when I went at Tim he’d look at me like he was bored. Whenever I run into a Tim Duncan fan who will claim Tim Duncan is the GOAT, I won’t disagree with him.”

Tim Duncan had a long career and was loyal to the San Antonio-based franchise. He won five championships with the Spurs in the 19 years he played for them. Notably, he won them in three different decades, which further proves his longevity and greatness.

Tim was also the Finals MVP in three of the five championships he won. He was one of those NBA legends who barely involved themselves in trash-talking. In fact, he let his performance speak for itself. He retired in 2016, quietly, without much noise around. Shaq definitely is a fan of Tim due to his legendary career and reputation.
